Most schools are decades old. They lack the technology and structure to permit distancing.
It would take all sorts of cooperation, creativity, and investment. Alternating half kids in the morning, the other half in the afternoon. Child-size masks. Plexiglass barriers between each desk. Enough materials so no sharing is required. Extra staff to guide or take aside kids who cannot understand/follow the new expectations. Extra staff to clean between shifts. But ONLY after infection rates have levelled off and there is a major stockpile of tests ready to go at each location.

But, Cuomo showed True Leadership and how it is done to DOMINATE and Control the pandemic. The other Governors should be following his example.
When the hospitals are full that is the idea of a pandemic. Cuomo did do a good job. we did have a superspreader here in Ny. I have no problem wearing a mask. My friend got oneoof those shields so you don’t touch your face. It helps.

@No Way Without people FAITHFULLY wearing masks when in public places with others, the virus will NEVER go away. It is not chicken pox. People will get sick over and over again. Even one infection usually leaves serious permanent damage and suffering. They found that with SARS, and are finding it with CV 19. The 2 are so closely related that Covid 19 is considered a version of the SARS group, and has SARS in its full name. Just google post SARS syndrome, and you will see what it’s like to have had it. Permanent lung and heart disease is no picnic, and on a huge scale it could cripple the economy. I mean just the post Covid stuff. But a permanent state of active disease circling around, over and over, would be worse than catastrophic!
While the American population does need culling, the ones who will die from an ongoingly diseased country will be heavily weighted towards the idiots who can’t be bothered to be safe, Trumpanzees, which is a good thing. But how do you think the rest of the world will treat a country like that? Especially seeing the US was already heartily disliked by many to begin with, and Trump is literally hated worldwide. Americans are already excluded from travel to Europe, while Canada is not. Though the US and Canada have wisely chosen to exclude each other, for now.
Hospitals are already at capacity in places, so those that can’t be treated will die. Bodies that can’t can’t be dealt with fast enough will pile up. The health care situation will become an even worse crisis by far. There will be so many welfare claimants that the system won’t be able to cope. Unemployment insurance, Obamacare, even employer based health insurance, which is already failing spectacularly, will be stressed past its limit.
I know it’s not in rightists’ natures to think things through, and although there are many other ways in which it would be catastrophic, I haven’t got all day to sit here telling them to you. It should suffice to say that your ideas would be disastrous to everyone, the country, and to you personally. It’s a shame that you are too stupid to see the obvious. Either that or you are a Russian troll being paid to write absurd garbage on social media.
The economy would suffer so much that it can’t even be described. It would take all day for a whole team of economists.

When talking about opening schools, all that gets said is “kids are less susceptible.” Why does everyone seem to forget that they have TEACHERS? I read that some 30% of teachers are over 60 years old, too. Kids can’t stay in school if all their teachers get sick.

Is the USA not doing virtual classrooms? Why not? We have been doing that in Canada since March when we closed down and you are not correct about children not transmitting it. They will share it and bring it home to mom, dad and gramma. Also there are deaths in children, especially those with other conditions AND we now know that some children will get toxic shock syndrome or Kawasaki disease. It’s not a free ride for kids and their families. In countries where the virus is under control, playgrounds and schools can be slowly reopened. But it’s not looking good in the USA.
Where are the so-called Christians not calling for self control? Why are th airlines packing planes going all over spreading the virus again?
