The US has 2.65 million cases, and 128,000 deaths. 2,650,000 ÷ 128,000 =
very close to 1/20 dead. That’s about 5%. Same thing if you look at the world, or most other countries. Not very difficult if you do the arithmetic yourself. If you get 20000 cases, 1000 will die, although methods and equipment are improving to save lives. If, as Fauci says it could, the rates reach 100,000 a day, we may be looking at 5,000 a day dying. Does that amount to a daily 9/11? Do the simple math yourself instead of listening to fools.

Pence is the one who says wear masks based on city and state regulations. The CDC is saying wearing them all the time in public. Dr. Gottlieb is blaming the wrong department–Trump has made it political and dumped responsibility on the states. Pence just parrots the president’s wishes.
What matters is not the total amount of tests you’ve done, not even the amount of tests per capita. What matters is the amount of testing you’re doing in relation to the scale of your outbreak. If you do loads of testing in comparison to the size of your outbreak, you can identify not only the heavily sick people but also the asymptomatics. From there you can track and trace to keep the virus from getting out of hand. If you’re only testing the most sick people, you have no control of the asymptomatics who are going out and spreading the virus without realising it.

South Korea – 100
The UK – 30.8
Germany – 27.6
The US – 12.5
That is why the US is failing to get this under control. Trump tries to gaslight people into thinking the US is ‘number 1 for testing’. Well it might be in terms of total tests done, but that’s not what matters.

Testing half a million people in one day and identifying 50,000 cases is almost senseless if they aren’t followed up, contacts traced, and all identified tested and or quarantined.
But more so – 450,000 people with negative results just went right back into the population pool to be infected this afternoon, tomorrow, or the next day.
Testing .5m daily is not .001524 of the population it is 10x less than that – as in, statistically meaningless when it comes to arresting the spread.
A *minimum* of 7,000,000 people need to be tested per day including those who have been in contact with a positive result.
It’s not so hard. Pool the samples – test one batch of 14 people in one test, winnow it out from there. Drill down to the positives.
We’re almost at forest fire stage here and will be soon if nothing changes
@Lars Jones Also, even in the places that were “locked down” we needed to be intensively testing the “essential workers” like those in the meat-packing plants and such daily, and then actually doing something immediately when anyone tested positive. We had more testing of people of means unlikely to be infected than the pools of working poor who were steeped in virus-laden and crowded environments. The people who were infected early on were mostly poor and minority workers who literally couldn’t afford to take one day off (or get any health care), now we are seeing lots of “recreational” cases where young people got it going out partying — maybe the half of the country that didn’t care will start taking it more seriously now?
You are right in principle but contact tracing 40,000 people everyday just isn’t possible; especially when most people have been in contact with dozens of people over a few days, most of them they don’t even know The tracing quarantining works when there are a few cases with identifiable contacts and when most people have been isolating themselves, as happened in e.g. New Zealand America is now out of control and as Dr Fauci said yesterday; it is going to get really bad and the New York experience will be repeated in dozens of areas and tens of thousands will now die.

How about more testing, contact tracing and fever clinics for quarantines? Those are some of the things other countries did in successfully confronting the virus, but we don’t even talk about them? My theory is rich people don’t want to pay for other people to get well, and government officials don’t want to anger rich people.
