Dr. Redlener: Tweaking Vaccines For New Covid Mutations Will Be A Major Problem | MTP Daily | MSNBC
I laugh at people who thought Covid was Fake ..
None of this is funny to me.
Most of those folks have already been clapped by it and were severely ego checked
Mutant virus, please.
It’ll be living in the sewers, eating pizza, and fighting crime next!
Perhaps you should look up what the word mutant means. It just means genetic mutation which leads to genetic variants of microorganisms. It happens all the time. Major mutation in animals normally means cancer, not super-powers.
@Linden OK splinter
covid19 requires masks , it’s a shame Joe Biden wasn’t present 4 years ago !
Ivermectin…
@Nic Moreno Not strictly for animals (there are human approved versions), but yeah… best to leave it alone for now. Even in the in vitro trials, the effective dosages required are not approved for human consumption. More research required.
@woss only to use as a topical use for humans…topical means no internal use
@Nic Moreno Again, not true I’m afraid. But still – don’t use it for covid.
@woss Clinical trials and in vitro studies are two different settings. Argentina has probably conducted the best ‘controlled’ clinical research to date with several different trial groups showing ivermectin does work. I have nothing against vaccines if safe. I also believe, as many researchers do, that there are existing drugs [like ivermectin or Famotidine, the latter which was used on Trump] that could be used on a prophylaxis basis.
@woss as long as you advoid large crowds mask up wash your hands very frequently and don’t allow people into your residence you will be fine…the people into your residence seems nuts but it’s only because you don’t know if they are carriers and will infect your surroundings….I have heart issues and i follow guidelines and do more to keep myself protected….the state and city I live in has daily reports of bussiness who are required to report infected cases of employees so I check those and don’t shop at those I grocery shop online when needed and if possible shop in the next town that has a lower population and infection rate…research what state your in and you should be able to find their reporting mandates on bussiness that will help you alot and will atleast give you a bit of relief of what your worrrying about…and dont take advice from anyone without researching it first….
Wish all news networks, at the end of each show dedicated 10-15 minutes reporting on something positive in their community/country that people could be happy about. Obviously this is THE major news but what a difference the media could make to viewers if reporting wasn’t always on negative things, or reasons to make you upset.
Sounds like a great idea! Even 5 minutes would be beneficial psychologically and emotionally! You could email the news channels, then follow up to see if they’re going to use your suggestion! Good luck:)
I hear what you’re saying, but I think right now, they should dedicate 5 minutes every night about who just died from the corona. We need people to deal with that reality first.
I’m sorry, but most “feel good” news is not really news at all, just someone patronizingly patting me on the head, saying,” now don’t you feel better?” Now if the report is an actual accomplishment in science or society yes. but if all it is, is an artificially flavored lollipop, no thank you.
Wow this the first time they seriously talked about the Mutant virures. We’re so late getting this info. Smh
The virus is fighting very hard against herd immunity. We the people must fight ever harder against infection.
Yes! Battle and fight! Fight harder as you battle against the hidden enemy, with all of your might! It’s a battle and a struggle, the fight is endless as we battle and fight! So fight, with all of your might, to the bitter end as you struggle in the fight of your life to battle the darkness!
‘mutation’ is another word for evolution. It’s happening right before our eyes. So much about creationism.
Shh you will get the sheep going
👍👍
The sheep need to crack open their Bibles, because evidence of evolution can be found in Genesis.
@Constituent A that’s right, the sheep take evidence from Bronze age people, who didn’t know where the sun goes at night.
— Viscous strain mutations are for the imagination of Hollywood and have no place or reference in empirical Virology!
— Antigenic shift (mutation) is a common normal biological function. Even though Cronavirus are considered far more stable in this regard than flu/virus, nevertheless inevitably will occur within large population infection spread. This is precisely why vaccines have little to no chance of effectiveness for Corona type viruses. History has proven this true over and over. Corna vaccines are notoriously problematic ( mostly due to rapid weakening) and have never been successful.
— SARS-COV-2 will not/cannot be contained or eradicated. What is going on right now, is known in epidemiology as the pathogen endemic equilibrium phase, (viral stasis) and is perfectly normal. Virulence weakening and dilution is what always happens when mutations and naturally acquired herd immunity is occurring throughout the populations. Invariably mutation causes infection rate increase and lethality rate decrease, henceforth it becomes ubiquitous and permanent. Vaccination at this stage, is essentially pointless.
— To show statistical significance for a virus of this type, a vaccine must show efficacy, (save lives, Period.) However, when the overall death rate is between 0.2 and 0.5 %, there will be little to no benefit. In other words, SARS-COV-2 virus is far too weak right now to show a vaccines effectiveness rate numerically, at population scale.
— Ubiquitous viruses are fought and defeated primarily by the T-Cell lymphocytes within our immune systems, Not from antibodies. The entire narrative that is being heavily perpetuated by a large sector of the science community is False. Either they simply do not understand or are blatantly lying. (This is fundamental immunology, based on biological Law. First term, first lesson, Chapter -1 “Steps leading through virus infection, to immunity”).
— What is going on in the world, is truly bizarre. To the extent that in just the past few short months, all virology and immunology textbooks ever printed in existence, are being re-written as we speak, the premise to all empirical scientific methodology, logic and reason. Induction of global hysteria by censorship of empirical science. (akin to StockHolm Syndrome at mass population scale)
Wrong-headed, I’m afraid. Yes, true, we’ll be living with Covid for decades to come (potentially indefinitely). But to state that the current vaccination drive is pointless, is wrong – both practically and theoretically.
@Nick Harvey
–T-Cell immunity always has given us long term immunity. Even though SARS-COV-2 is considered a novel virus, all Corona viruses are genetically sequenced very similarly and are riddled with the same hijacked and borrowed protein and molecular parts. T-Cells recognize these attached protein markers on every covid 19 invading virus through a long term recall memory, recognition and RNA transcription mechanism (cross immunity). The T-cells rapidly shred the infected cells into fragments and store the viral RNA for future recognition inside our bone marrow and other tissue. This is precisely why for the vast majority of the time the infections are very mild or completely benign. Mutations are common among these types of viruses and will only add to virulence dilution and weakening, in what is known in epidemiology as the pathogen endemic equilibrium phase of the pandemic (viral stasis).
Hurry up geez
The way this virus is conveniently mutating in just the right ways to stay ahead of vaccines it has yet to have mass contact with is disturbing. While the examination says it is not a ‘cooked’ virus from a lab, does that preclude some actor from ‘nudging’ the mutations by exposing them to the vaccines repeatedly without fudging with the gene code directly?
Microorganisms mutate in nature. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s science. SMH.
Welcome to basic viruses 101.
Dr Redlener is talking nonsense. He is talking about mutations in the vaccine, when he really means mutations in the virus. Also, not all vaccines are equal. Past vaccines could not keep up with mutating viruses because they were based on protein (peptide) antigens which are rendered useless by the mutations. Also, they relied on antibody production as protection from infection. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are based on RNA immunogens. The RNA gets inside the cells, where it mimicks an actual infection. The immune response is more natural, involving both T cell and B cell immunity to multiple virus epitopes. If one epitope is mutated, the response against other epitopes will protect. If this should not be the case, new RNA vaccines can be synthesized practically overnight. Anyone who has received an earlier vaccine can be boosted with the new vaccine. Unless there are serious unforeseen side effects from this new technology, RNA vaccines will prove to be a magic bullet against future infectious diseases. This is the way of the future.
That’s my understanding as well. Given the efficacy of the mRNA vaccines is around 95%, a small reduction in that number still provides substantial protection
I think he just misspoke and accidentally used the wrong words.
Altering the mRNA vaccines is easy, it’s distribution that is the challenge.
@Linden I know he misspoke, but how many listeners know that? We don’t need more confusion. Everyone appears to be underestimating the distribution challenge. Aside from the political and logistical, there is the issue of vaccine stability. The Pfizer vaccine requires special freezers or dry ice, while the Moderna vaccine requires household freezer temperatures for long term storage, and is stable for 12 hr at room temp, as I understand.
@Peter Chisholm Exactly. There are only a few scenarios where a point mutation might knock out immunogenicity.
But if that happens, new vaccines can be developed overnight.
Umm…in today’s press conference (which we are having again, AMEN), Dr. Fauci said the vaccine will still work for the new strains of the virus that are currently present in the US. So this guy may not know all the necessary details.
Michael Osterholm who advises Biden said he is scared about the variants and how they could evade vaccine immunity.
I am sure Dr. Recliner meant younger people are more affected by the mutant strains of the virus, not “Younger people are more affected by the vaccines.”
he accidentally said vaccine instead of virus a couple of times
Poorly done interview. Should have been re-done, or not shown at all.
Is it mutating? Or is this a scare to keep lock downs in place? I’ll go with the latter.
Viruses mutate. Flu virus mutates. That’s the reason why you have to get a new flu vaccine every year.
Tweaking the vaccines is pretty easy for the mRNA vaccines. The challenge is distribution.
yeah… sure i believe you.😂
Why did you air this when Redlener misspoke and called virus mutations vaccine mutations? There is enough confusion and misinformation out there without adding to the mix. This session should have been halted and corrected with Redlener before airing and posting. Not helpful.
