2. 68000 fewer people would die each year
3. We would save $48,000,000 each year in costs

So someone help me with this death rate only being about 1%. I just checked the Johns Hopkins data which shows 130,101 deaths / 2,911,888 cases = death rate of 4.5%. What am I missing?

You are believing that estimates are the true number of cases and deaths. Both reported deaths and reported cases are underestimates. However, the number of confirmed cases is much much smaller than the number of actual cases, while the number of reported deaths is only a little smaller than the number of actual deaths.
Not only increase in covid19 deaths, also a surge in overdose and suicide deaths due to severe lack of services and isolation, depression.
