  1. WELCOME TO THE SOVIET UNION!

So landlords should face foreclosure by banks? Ford isn’t going to offer any tax breaks or offer compensation? Wow, what a generous guy…..with other people’s money.

  2. Ford has to go, he might as well be a big government liberal. Landlords have no such obligation.

    1. yeah i voted for him but he is showing his true liberal colours. we need a new conservative party. landlords have bills to pay sorry, he should be going after the big banks who are holding onto the mortgages if anything

    2. @Sun Bernier was right about the conservative party, even seems to be the case provincially. Might as well call them the Liberal-lite party, between liberals, ndp and liberal-lite party we got nowhere to go.

  3. Who knew that Doug Ford would ever be the voice of reason. Excellent job Doug. Big Surprise.

    1. That’s beside the point. Landlords own property they must have money. They should pay for the less fortunate plus when this is over give 6 months free rent…it’s only fair.

    2. @Kevin Beausoleil

I’m not a charity, dude. I need to pay for property taxes, insurance, and maintenance. Do you know how much insurance rates have soared this year and last? And deferment don’t help when after 6 months all the payments have to be amortized with INTEREST….do you honestly believe these tenants are going to stick around to pay up like $9000 that they’d owe? The deferments are not freebies, dude. The payments are going to be ramped up in 6 months. Again, why is the government thinking private individuals are responsible for welfare?

  4. Landlords have zero obligations other than what is set out in their legal agreements. Tenants should be the ones applying for relief, not the landlords. The tenants are the ones who can meet their obligations, obviously through no fault of their own. This has nothing to do with greed, but lack of government forethought.

  5. Without government enforcement or a moratorium, these are just words. Those “greedy” landlords have mortgage payments too.

  6. Ford puts Ontarians out of a job, then warns landlords that they should pay for the problem he created?

  7. To the landlords complaining. You have to pay 100% your obligations with 75% coming in. The small business owner would have to pay 25% their obligation with 0% coming in. No matter how we look at it these are unprecedented times. I would urge landlords to stop hiding behind contracts and do the morally correct thing. Your client (the tenant) will be there for you. The small business owner has so much more at risk.

  8. I can understand what Doug is saying but those “landlords” have mortgages to pay! Let’s all watch the big banks report their profits at the end of June! The banks are the ones that shouldn’t be able to sleep right now!
