How anyone denies that there is something wrong with the system is beyond me, but I was just guessing (through the Nytimes article posted) that’s what the original commenter meant by “parish” in his/her first post.

@BD yeah. My Great Grandfather suffered a much more atrocious, but similar death in the 1930s. And the Land My Great Grandmother owned was stolen. It was the larger majority of Madison, Tensas, and Franklin parishes.
