Dominica wins back-to-back Miss Jaycees Queen Show

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DOMINICA, for the second consecutive year, has carted off the crown in the annual Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show held last night (Aug. 2) in Antigua.

The Show, which took place at Carnival City on the Antigua Recreation Grounds, saw Miss Dominica Leslassa Shillingford-Armour winning three of the judged segments and being crowned at about 1:00 this morning by her predecessor and compatriot Nadira Lando.

Armour-Shillingford outshone her 10 competitors and captured the categories of Best Interview, Best Swimwear, Best Performing Talent and was also adjudged Miss Photogenic.

The First Runner-up was Miss Antigua while Miss Anguilla Taitu Goodwin took the Second Runner up position.

Miss Barbados Alicia Trotman won the award for Miss Congeniality.

Many locals had anticipated a very stiff competition of beauty and brains between St. Kitts-Nevis and Dominica, since in recent years representatives of the two countries had battled for pageantry supremacy.

In 2012, Miss St. Kitts-Nevis Kaila Huggins place First Runner- up to Miss Dominica Nadira Lando.

Then in 2011, Miss St. Kitts-Nevis Iantavian Queeley walked away with the title while Miss Dominica Jacintha Fagan placed First Runner-up.

The other contestants were Miss USA Marsha Thompson, Miss Dominican Republic Rosa Martinez, Miss Guyana Ayana Harris, Miss Montserrat Kadija Furlonge, Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Shara George and Miss Trinidad and Tobago Breige Wilson.

This year’s theme for the Show was ‘Where the Stars Shine’.

This was the 52nd year of the Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show; a Show that represents Caribbean unity through the participation of young women from across the region displaying music, drama, talent and cultural expression.
