Police in the eastern Caribbean island of Dominica say a mother has stabbed her two young daughters to death.
Police spokesman Claude Weekes said Friday that the 23-year-old woman has not yet been charged in the killing of 2-month-old Sophie Vigilante and 5-year-old Rachel Vigilante. Her own full name was not released.
Weekes says she is under police custody at the island’s main hospital, where she is being treated for cuts to her wrist. He declined to say whether she had attempted to commit suicide.
He says a relative who was visiting the house called police when she awoke on Thursday and discovered the bodies. The house is in the village of Mahaut, just north of the capital of Roseau.
