Mayor Letizia Moratti revels in Dominican warmth and hospitality
during short visit to Dominica
Roseau, Dominica – April 21, 2009………………The Government of Dominica has expressed its deepest thanks and gratitude to the Mayor of Milan, Letizia Moratti for her assistance in providing ten(10) buses for use by over eight hundred and eleven (811) Dominican school children and a fully equipped ambulance.
At a ceremony at the North East Comprehensive School in honour of the Mayor of Milan and her delegation, which included members of her Cabinet, Acting Minister for Education, Hon. Ian Pinard expressed thanks to the Italian Government for their investment in the children of Dominica.
“Mayor Moratti, the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth Affairs and Sports is indeed very grateful for your support and assistance. This programme would have been impossible without your support. This is in fact an investment by yourself and your government in the young people of Dominica and we are deeply grateful. I wish to formally thank you and ask you to convey our gratitude and best wishes to your government and people as we look forward to greater collaboration in the future,” Hon Pinard stated.
In his remarks, Hon. Vince Henderson described Mayor Moratti as “a genuine person”. Hon. Henderson, who made the initial contact with Mayor Moratti when he was Minister for Education also spoke of their shared interests, including the environment, sustainable development and education.
Performances at the ceremony came from students from the Belles Primary School and the North East Comprehensive School. Gifts and bouquets were also presented to the Mayor and her delegation.
The ceremony ended with the symbolic handing over of the buses by the Mayor to the Government of Dominica followed by the unveiling of the Expo Milan Logo 2015.
In addition to the ten school buses, valued at EC $1.5 million, an ambulance valued at US$60,000 was also presented to the Government of Dominica.
The buses have been assigned to the villages of Penville, Grand Fond, Carib Territory, Campbell, Petite Savanne, Wesley, Woodford Hill, La Plaine, Petite Soufriere and the West Coast villages.
