President Liverpool and Tourism Minister Douglas to present addresses on radio
Roseau, Dominica – November 11, 2008…….. On the occasion of World Responsible Tourism Day and Caribbean Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism through the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) is organising a number of activities.
World Responsible Tourism Day is celebrated on November 12 every year around the world to bring into focus the importance of responsible and sustainable tourism practices. In response to the demands of responsible visitors to the Nature Island, the Government of Dominica in partnership with stakeholders within the tourism industry continues to invest heavily in our unique tourism product through the practice of responsible and sustainable tourism practices for the benefit of present and future generations.
Addresses by the President of Dominica, His Excellency, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool, DAH, OCC and the Minister for Tourism, Hon. Ian Douglas will be aired on DBS radio on Wednesday November 12th. Stakeholders in the tourism industry will also be interviewed on radio and television.
On Wednesday, November 12th, Dominica will also celebrate Caribbean Tourism Day. Caribbean Tourism Day was celebrated around the Caribbean on Tuesday, November 4th – which was the National Day of Community Service in Dominica, hence the decision to celebrate Caribbean Tourism Day on the same day as World Responsible Tourism Day.
In recognition of the fact that our water is an essential component of our unique tourism product, the Discover Dominica Authority has partnered with the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company(DOWASCO) in commemorating Water Week this week with a number of activities. The theme for Water Week is Imagine Life without Water.
Dominica’s water resource can truly be appreciated by exploring the many attractions including Trafalgar Falls, Middle Ham Falls, Fresh Water Lake, sulphur springs, whale and dolphin watching and the many dive spots that have catapulted Dominica as a major dive destination in the world.
The Tourism Sector is the largest foreign exchange earner in Dominica, bringing in over $160 million into the economy annually and contributing over 12 percent to the island’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP). Ends
