Following the assassination of Haiti’s President, some have called for the U.S. military to intervene. But we’ve been there before and it didn't turn out so great. NBC’s Mehdi Hasan takes viewers on a walk down memory lane.

Does America Have ‘Interventionist Amnesia’? | MSNBC
You’re my fave and I’m not even a Democrat. People are beyond stupid these days. Proud lifelong Independent btw.
Thank you for these reminders and information. Americans have a clown crap show to clean up domestically and must focus on all of it and mind our own beeswax‼️
America has shown it’s ugly to the world and there’s no fanfare.🇺🇸👻
Those who push “patriotic” education in the US are making the same argument that the Chinese Communist Party makes. There is plenty of good in US history as well as plenty of bad, citizens should know about both.
You know the people whining about America needing to be isolated would cheer for a full blown invasion of Cuba to “liberate” it.
Which should be happening in about 6 months.
Marjorie must have told Matt Gaetz that people use Venmo to make minor purchases.
Ha!! Good one!
use simple words US people are not as smart you are
Trump has two parts of a brain: ‘left’ and ‘right’.
In the left side, there’s nothing right.
In the right side, there’s nothing left.
You are witty!
If America does not wish to teach Black History why would anyone think America wish to teach international/world history…. the only history the gop and trump supporters wish learn is white history…
Not even that. They want feel-good propaganda, not actually History.
America needs a big mirror in which to take a good hard look at yourselves. Then actually do something to “make the change”. You have become the laughing stock of the World. Take off those arrogant glasses of “greatness”, truly see your national character – both pos and neg – and have courage to do the right things. Yes. You. Can.
Imagine China threatening to intervene in your country because of the continuing risk of a right wing coup, would you welcome them with open arms?
great segment, sure. but could’ve easily been condensed by simply pointing out uttering the phrase, civilian control of the military, is de facto an un american statement, thanks!!
“Interventionist Amnesia?” No. It has the Military/Industrial Complex that Ike warned against. What is one of the few big things the USA still exports? Military/policing weapons, personnel, and training. Doomed to repeat? Yeah, baby yeah! $$$$$$$$$$$$$ – I know of some retired military guys making some really good money on top of their pensions.
When the U.S. gets involved in third world politics, it usually makes matters worse.
Amerika loves it’s wars. It makes them feel they are relevant.
Americans do not like even to think about History except when glorifying America “won” WWII in Films.
They were content to watch Europe burn from a safe distance in World War Two. They only became directly involved when Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, and thennnnnnn they became involved. I’m not going to rubbish the Huge sacrifice of Americans and others in that war – or demonize the Germans and Japanese and others who they fought – but there is a very different view here in Europe of the American involvement in that war.
The Schrader Corollary is, “Those who study history are doomed to stand by and watch it be repeated — in real time.”
