I’m a Thai medical student with a F-1 visa in NYC. Graduated from Stanford and currently at Mount Sinai for medical school + residency. Still being told to get a green card marriage (face palm)
should have picked Canada, you would have almost been given citizenship with a bonus smile after 1st 6 months of residency
@Jeffrey Witty My understanding is that one needs to be a PR or citizen to be able to study medicine and dentistry in Canada. I agree though, Natty could have come to Canada, study a science degree, stay, get a PR and then go into medical school. Even now I think she should be able to apply for Canadian PR from the states – it will be faster.
I was a medical student from Thailand, came here after the med school in Thailand to start residency in USA. Went to an ObGyn residency in NYC then got a job as an attending. My work applied a GC for me then my case was audited, which was a shock to me, so I had to start over and pay the lawyer again. I had to wait for 3 years to finally got my GC. I could be careless about the GC but I worried that I had to go back to Thailand and extend my H1B everytime which was very cumbersome and that affected my patients cause they had to reschedule to see me.

It’s not insane at all, considering the amount of Canadian doctors the USA grabs up from us- 60% last I checked- Do you know why she’s crying? because the pay in Canada here is about 1/3rd compared to that of the USA pay-scale in medicine. She, like my cousin last year (almost identical scenario, school and volunteered in USA) have been denied because Canada is historically low on doctors. Ask anyone up here who just moved from Province to Province or someone who just immigrated here, how easy it is to get a doctor, General practitioner or otherwise. Ask them- Understand young lady, the Canadian system is 100% socialist think about this next time you talk socialism (I’m assuming that you are a lefty, sorry if I’m wrong) especially while your heart goes out to a doctor from Canada who is clearly a CAPITALIST – cheers
