Detained WSJ journalist appears in Moscow court

Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich appeared at a Moscow court for a hearing to appeal the terms of his detention. He is asking that his pre-trial detention be under house arrest rather than in jail. Gershkovich was detained in late March and formally charged with espionage. 1. “Do not hope that once you take advantage of Russia’s weakness, you will receive dividends forever. Russians always come for their money. And when they come, do not rely on the Jesuit agreements you signed that allegedly justify you. Therefore, you should either play fair with the Russians, or at all do not play.” Bismarck Chancellor of Germany 57

    1. Good… But jack is a Ukrainian in ethnicity… A traitor… He could be in Frontlines be a sunflower

    2. Anyone that is in Russia currently should be left on their own. They made a choice to stay- Let then deal with that choice. Why should others have to pay for that choice.
      Rittenhouse is a perfect example.
He placed himself at risk, He made himself a target and then he was forced to take the life of others because of that choice.
( Any American still in Russia is a target )
Why feel sorry for the outcome of these peoples personal choices.

  2. One day they might say, “Have you ever been to the prisons in Russia? Oh, you haven’t? You really should try to. They have the nicest people there.”

    1. @deck. Absurd humor doesn’t discount naive state here. Current opinion of Russian populace is .. Putin took too little and too weak a stance with Ukraine problem. ( even while Putin is polling high 80’s still). Recent speech ( Poland?) spoke of existential question for west ( neo con elites?) with Ukraine defeat. How about we get off heavily subsidized corporate media and actually do our job knowing what is transpiring world wide ?

    2. @Dan Wright Keep practicing that google translate pinko. Maybe one day you’ll get that propaganda across.

  3. I lived in Moscow for 7 years. It was a great city. Safe, clean, modern, lots and lots to do. I had my family packed up and back to my country 7 days after the war began. Theground shifted and it was time to leave.

  4. The russian favorite guy said When exposing the truth is a crime, you are being ruled by criminals. In accordance to the russian’s favorite man, they should release Evan immediately

  5. How Putin’s justice system works: “Next case? Guilty! 20 years. Next case? Guilty! 25 years. Next case?”

  6. To paraphrase Julia Joffe: …I wish Russians had a different skin color than us. They look the same as us , so we think they are the same. But they really are not. They truly are and think fundamentally different and we can’t seem to wrap our heads around that. Purple might help us to remember this more easily…
