Pilotage fees are compulsory in Jamaica but you are not required to take a local pilot. Most of the cruise ships don’t take one because they come here regularly and use their captain to take in the ship. This won’t affect a Jamaican pilots salary.
@Jordan Jordannis They are referring to marine pilots, not pilots on planes. Marine pilots manoeuvre ships safely into ports of call or through treacherous waters.
It’s the ship Captain say if he wants the local pilot to bring in the ship in port, once the Local pilot is on the bridge to assist with Navigating the ship through the channel, that’s the main thing
