@Peter Parker nobody that I know of in my area is really taking this seriously, only because we have 3 cases in our county. Give it a week, we’ll have over 200 and everyone will blame the gov for not doing anything and allowing it to spread. You know what, how about someone say “everyone in China is actually dead” to spice things up a bit.
It’s wholly possible that China’s numbers aren’t completely accurate, but I don’t think they’re out by that much. It’s against their interests to lie about having millions of people still infected. This thing kills, and kills fast. There’s no way around that.. as Trump is sloooowly discovering, you can’t just pretend it doesn’t exist.
You perhaps doubt the figures, because you haven’t seen how they reacted to this, and can’t believe they did it so much better than you. I can’t believe they handled it so much better than you either, but apparently that’s the world we live in now… I actually live in China, and have personally undergone (and am still undergoing) the strict control measures China implemented during this time. I watched the days they were reporting up to 4000 infections a day in a single city. I saw that curve slow as the measures took effect.
The difference is, China took this seriously – both government and its people. They didn’t hold mardi gras and mass rallies. They acted early (not early enough by a looong way… they still effed up big time… but were still months ahead of the rest of the world despite constant warnings), they tested extensively, and they shut the entire country down for a month… and by shut down, I mean shut down. There was almost no one on the streets. No traffic. Cities were physically closed off at toll booths, and people monitored and registered coming in and out, and expected (by law) to remain isolated for 2 weeks when they get somewhere new. People still get their temp taken entering every building here… even taken when entering shops inside a building you’ve already been measured.
The US will not see reductions until they take this seriously…. which I don’t see happening for a while. The longer it’s left, the harder it is to control… Most of the US has actually already left it too long to effectively control the outbreak. You guys just need to minimise deaths now.
The health system will be overrun within a week or two, meaning all non-covid related emergencies and chronic health issues will also suffer enormously.
Mexico probably gonna be well gutted they didn’t pay for that wall….
