I cried too, seeing the old lady’s bruised face pained me to the core – she’s my mother’s age but my mother would not have survived the attack. Last March my 10 year old was called names simply because she was Asian, I chose to let her stay home as the school’s opening. But with all ugliness going on we have received more love and support, walking in the community I see more people smiling and waving at me.

I’m so sorry for these incidents. I am appalled. This has happened ti me in my life time as a black woman. I am retired now but I was educated. I had to work twice as hard as others. I didn’t trust anyone. It was very very hard in the 60s. I feel so bad for the Asians. They were my only friends when I worked. They were so kind to me as thou they felt some of my pain.

I am a white woman who grew up in Newark NJ.. I was robbed, had my car broken into and carjacked. When I was 8, 4 black boys approached me and told me to get off my bike. You know what my parents said? No more bike for you, next time be careful. Not once did I cry racism.. I’m so sick and tired of listening to this nonsense. Here in New Orleans, citizens of Vietnamese background are into their third generation, having come here in the 1970’s. They have significantly contributed their time, labor, talents and wonderful cultural uniqueness to our part of the country. I am pleased and glad to know them. They contribute so much to our landscape and state.
