France, Israel and South Korea have charged and in two cases convicted(one is still pending) current or former heads of state in the last 5 years. Both of the convictions led to prison sentences. It hasn’t damaged those countries, they aren’t “banana republics”. All this handwringing is pointless. If any citizen is to have any faith at all, left in the US justice system, these crimes need to be charged, regardless of the culprit.
