Chris Matthews: The Importance Of This ‘Hardball Chair’ | Hardball | MSNBC

Great point #Wethepeople run this country.
Keep up the fight! I love your no nonsense approach to the news.
richard boone He’s not a journalist. He’s an opinion mouthpiece for the Democrat party.
“Academic betters?”
***MEDIA FAIL*** — Since when do the so-called academic elite hold ANY real power in this nation? Where are the university chancellors and PhD professors dictating American policies? Isn’t the REAL problem here instead Toxic Traitor Trump’s rejection of sound, thoughtful advice from experts and intellectuals, going on his “gut” alone, causing him to fall on his face spectacularly, while America LOSES face? Why is Chris Matthews adding his voice to the right-wing propaganda promoting fear-mongering of academia and general ignorance?
So, Krystal Ball is now universally declaring that Republicans are the elite! Remember, most big corporations run by Republicans, Republicans control Executive, Senate, and Judiciary in federal government, hold majority of states governorships and legislatures! Wow! Interesting! That is quite the assertion for Ms. Ball to make! Kind of agree, though why is she hiding behind a bunch of sophistry; why didn’t she just come out and say so in plain English to make that point “Krystal clear” (TM)?
Taking a look below at the definition of elite(s) and the context, we find that Ms. Ball’s usage shows she is using the fourth description in the first definition of the word (1. d). Obviously, it is really Republicans holding power in this country, they are the TRUE elite! Which is precisely why Ms. Ball would be wise to refrain from carelessly throwing out words meaninglessly, mindlessly parroting right-wing propaganda, adding to the confusion and problem! In truth, the reality is that all of America is the elite–from richest to poorest–and we all need to change! Blaming the politicians when it is we who elected them (setting aside for a moment the antiquated, undemocratic electoral college which should have been abolished long ago!) is not correctly identifying the problem, meaning the solution proposed is therefore likely to be unproductive, too.
Some words–such as elite–are easy to misuse and abuse, and it seems proper care should be taken when using them. Not all elites are necessarily part of the problem, either–no matter how elite is defined below, many can actually be a valued part of the solution! Moreover, there will always be a ‘ruling’ elite in any organized society, so just throwing the word out there means little or nothing on its own. Are they good rulers; good elected officials; altruistic public servants; dedicated to honoring human rights, the rule of law, and our Constitution? Or, are they bad?
Definition of elite (noun)
1. a) singular or plural in construction : the choice part : cream
Example: the elite of the entertainment world
b) singular or plural in construction : the best of a class
Example: superachievers who dominate the computer elite
c) singular or plural in construction : the socially superior part of society
Example: how the French-speaking elite … was changing
d) a group of persons who by virtue of position or education exercise much power or influence:
Example: members of the ruling elite
e) a member of such an elite —usually used in plural:
Example: the elites …, pursuing their studies in Europe
Carry on.
