Democrats can beat Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Another four years of a Trump White House is not a foregone conclusion. With nine months to go before the general election, there’s a tremendous amount of fear and uncertainty hanging over many of us about the future of the American republic. Amidst this fear, Democratic voters are deciding which candidate is best suited to run against the President. But a lot of the fights over who that person could be are actually fights over how to build a coalition of voters big enough to beat Donald Trump in the electoral college. In envisioning how to build that coalition, you have to look at the margins. If the solid-blue, never-Trump contingency make up the reliable core of the voting bloc, then the folks on the margins are key to solving the puzzle of 2020. Former Obama speechwriter and Crooked Media co-founder Jon Favreau spent time talking with members of this crucial group in four battleground states for the second season of his podcast, "The Wilderness". He joins to discuss what a winning coalition could look like.» Subscribe to MSNBC:

*this is what a virus is* … human genetic material that has a mechanism for entering a cell and getting it to start using and replicating it’s information… *does that sound like anything else we have in our world?* … like *bad* information?…
Edwin Starr – War (Original Video – 1969):

Where there is fire, there is smoke. And, in that smoke, from this day foreword, my people will crouch and conspire and plot and plan for the inevitable day of liberal’s downfall, the day when they finally and self-destructively turns there weapons against its own kind, the day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble, when the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland, out of which I will lead my people to freedom, and we will build our own cities in which there will be no place for liberals except to hunt down and terminate. We shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! That day is upon you now!
Great do that in Alabama and take the rest of the nutbags with you.
My 8 year old and 6 year old sons have more testosterone than Chris Hayes.
Commenting on children’s testosterone, pretty sad, perverted and certainly creepy that is where you go for a comparison.
i know for a fact we have unholy (incomplete) thinking in our world… i think it high time to start sorting things out… *separate things* appropriately in our minds… educate ourselves to reality…
@Toward Treatise
fine… you have yours… see if it can survive then… that is the final solution…
@Toward Treatise
all the things that wise men have ever said.. what are they?…
@Toward Treatise
folly (n.)
early 13c., “mental weakness; foolish behavior or character; unwise conduct” (in Middle English including wickedness, lewdness, madness), from Old French folie “folly, madness, stupidity” (12c.), from fol (see fool (n.)). From c. 1300 as “an example of foolishness;” sense of “costly structure considered to have shown folly in the builder” is attested from 1650s. But used much earlier, since Middle English, in place names, especially country estates, probably as a form of Old French folie in its meaning “delight.” Related: Follies.

The Democrat umbrella is way to small to cover everyone, who doesn’t want to be looped in with the old white racist GOP. We need another party. Until then #VoteBlue

Hey! No !
Even Joe Biden’s words,
“we must vote for Trump”
(look it up !!!)

Fifty year Dem voter here. I will never vote for Biden. There are a lot of us. You guys are missing the story AGAIN, 2016 here we come.
@jrad410 I’m more of a M4A, GND or bust. Whoever does it is much less important. Neoliberals have wrecked out country – done with them. Biden already on record as willing to VETO M4A if it shows up on his desk.
The Dem elites will rely on the never Trumpers to win. And then Biden will go after SS and Medicare just like Obama. Most people don’t know that it was the Republicans that prevented Obama from wrecking SS.
Glen Last that’s not accurate to what happened. It was a bargain Obama and Biden wanted to raise taxes on the wealthy in exchange for cuts to SS. It wasn’t something they just wanted to do. Republicans walked away, your framing is off.
@jrad410 Obomber and Gropey Joe are corporate whores who sold out the voters to Wallstreet and other corporate criminals. You are a lying imbecile and obvious >DUMMY

Not voting is giving the Right wing exactly what they want. They will cut Social Security and Medicare. Biden at least supports adding a public option to Obama Care. The important thing for M4A people is to keep pushing for our values.
Glen: Even in Biden’s own words “WE MUST VOTE FOR TRUMP”
its TRUE! look it up !
we do not have to listen to evil if we can recognize it… we can cast it out of our lives…
*if you think about it* … division is probably one of the greatest manifestations of creative power imaginable…
being able to sort things out… to separate… to divide and appropriate…
i think it has something to do with thinking…
i believe our conscious is all we have when we meet our confrontation with reality…
conscious i guess meaning bits and pieces…
conscious (adj.)
c. 1600, “knowing, privy to” (poetic), from Latin conscius “knowing, aware,” from conscire “be (mutually) aware,” from assimilated form of com “with,” or “thoroughly” (see con-) + *scire* “to know” (see science). The Latin word probably is a loan-translation of Greek syneidos.
The sense of “knowing or perceiving within oneself, sensible inwardly, aware” is from 1630s, perhaps a shortening of conscious to oneself (1620s). Also compare the Latin sense evolution in conscience. From 1650s as “aware (of a fact).” Sense of “active and awake, endowed with active mental faculties” is from 1837. Related: Consciously.
science (n.)
mid-14c., “what is known, knowledge (of something) acquired by study; information;” also “assurance of knowledge, certitude, certainty,” from Old French science “knowledge, learning, application; corpus of human knowledge” (12c.), from Latin scientia “knowledge, a knowing; expertness,” from sciens (genitive scientis) “intelligent, skilled,” present participle of scire “to know,” probably originally “to separate one thing from another, to distinguish,” related to scindere “to cut, divide,” from PIE root *skei- “to cut, split” (source also of Greek skhizein “to split, rend, cleave,” Gothic skaidan, Old English sceadan “to divide, separate”).
From late 14c. in English as “book-learning,” also “a particular branch of knowledge or of learning;” also “skillfulness, cleverness; craftiness.” From c. 1400 as “experiential knowledge;” also “a skill, handicraft; a trade.” From late 14c. as “collective human knowledge” (especially that gained by systematic observation, experiment, and reasoning). Modern (restricted) sense of “body of regular or methodical observations or propositions concerning a particular subject or speculation” is attested from 1725; in 17c.-18c. this concept commonly was called philosophy. Sense of “non-arts studies” is attested from 1670s.
Science, since people must do it, is a socially embedded activity. It progresses by hunch, vision, and intuition. Much of its change through time does not record a closer approach to absolute truth, but the alteration of cultural contexts that influence it so strongly. Facts are not pure and unsullied bits of information; culture also influences what we see and how we see it. Theories, moreover, are not inexorable inductions from facts. The most creative theories are often imaginative visions imposed upon facts; the source of imagination is also strongly cultural. [Stephen Jay Gould, introduction to “The Mismeasure of Man,” 1981]
In science you must not talk before you know. In art you must not talk before you do. In literature you must not talk before you think. [John Ruskin, “The Eagle’s Nest,” 1872]
The distinction is commonly understood as between theoretical truth (Greek epistemē) and methods for effecting practical results (tekhnē), but science sometimes is used for practical applications and art for applications of skill. To blind (someone) with science “confuse by the use of big words or complex explanations” is attested from 1937, originally noted as a phrase from Australia and New Zealand.
and now we’re back to division…
if human kind is somehow interconnected and say some alien thing happens to get inside… how would that condition manifest itself?…
the CDC reports over 65% of american’s have one form or another of a chronic degenerative disease… and 40% have two or more conditions…
the conclusion… we live in an ill society… our thinking is not well…
Ahh, Chris H, no one takes you seriously anymore. During this crisis you spread nothing but fear. As usual. All this talk, but you live the ‘good life’ off the backs of others fears. Well done, loser!
You should be ashamed of yourselves MSNBC, politicizing a pandemic because Trump made a few verbal gaffes.
Trump on Jan 22: we have it totally under control, It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.
Trump on Feb 2: We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.
Trump on Feb 24 The Corona virus is very much under control in the USA. Stock market starting to look very good to me.
Trump on Feb 25: CDC and my administration are doing a great job of handling Corona virus
Trump on Feb 26: The 15 cases in the US within a couple of days is going to be down close to 0
Trump on Feb 26: We’re going down very substantially down, not up.
Trump on Feb 27: One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear
Trump on Mar 4: If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and going to work – some of them go to work, but they get better (on Fox tV)
Trump on Mar 5: I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work
Trump on Mar 7: (about the cruise ship on which US citizens are infected which he refused permission to come to shore) “I like the numbers being where they are. I don’t need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn’t our fault.
A few verbal gaffes? Or complete and utter incompetence which is leading to people having incorrect information. He got rid of all the government agencies that could have dealt with a pandemic. Meanwhile he golfs and makes money every time he golfs, steals money from a charity (for which he and his offspring were found liable in a court of law) …Oh and don’t forget that he single handedly caused the stock market to crash in the last few days.
@Donna Tan and I’m still laffing at Joe Biden’s gaff saying vote for Trump !!!
@Donna Tan DONNA: VOTE for our PRESIDENT….TRUMP !! Joe Biden SAYS too !!!
@cats and cars, RingTail Gang You some how think that is worse than flat out lying to people about a pandemic that is deadly especially to elderly or people already suffering from other illnesses. Really? You must think it was worse when Obama said you can keep your doctor than when Trump said the world can sleep better knowing that North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat. I mean seriously? You people are willfully ignorant. There are very few reasons to continue supporting that man and none of them are redeeming qualities.
Biden carries a 35 year can of Congress and Saunders carries a Can of Socialist Taxation.

What’s wrong with making the top 1% pay their fair share? What’s wrong with our tax dollars working to make our lives better? Why don’t we want our youth to be well educated? Why don’t we want our society to be healthy? Why are we taking food from a hungry child and giving more money to the already insanely wealthy? It doesn’t make any sense and in comparison to the rest of the world (which many think is inferior to the US) and we do not do anything for the people. We only rank highest in the number of people in prison, people that own guns, the number of people killed by guns and the number of people that die due to a lack of access to healthcare. That’s about it. The richest country in the world and we are not the most educated and we are not the most healthy and we have a huge problem with homelessness; vets, seniors, the disabled are homeless and/or live in severe poverty; we don’t care for the mentally ill, but we give our tax dollars to people that have yachts inside their yachts — it’s gross and it’s real. The Walton’s that own Walmart and prey on people, communities and tax payers have more food left over after one meal than their employees could afford for the week. At Christmas they hold a food drive so employee’s can help each other out during the holidays and then there is news that one of them purchased a single piece of art for $44 million dollars. It’s gross…why are we subsidizing their workforce (largest group collectively receiving food stamps). We’ve been doing it the same way for a LONG, LONG time and it’s not working for 95% of people so let’s learn a lesson and try something new. We don’t need to build war machines we will never use just to keep weapons manufactures in business. I’m just saying, it’s our money and it should go to making our lives better. Just think about the money Bloomberg was able to spend (that’s his choice — his money) even though he knew he would never win. Where did all that money go…mainly to big TV networks and other already profitable corporations. It stayed at the top. Things need to change.
@justmemadison ….to run a successful Business would have to be one of the most difficult Tasks anyone could take on. Madison, most fail in the first 6 Months because of the degree of difficulty. Live in a Country where only the Ruling Class are Wealthy and you may realise the USA is not such a bad place. Life is never easy, just ask anyone who has been successful. I am an Engineer with a BENG and a Mathematics Degree and hard work eventually paid off along with some lucky breaks.
Stop lying to the public!
Very thoughtful discussion of the “swing” voter. You people are doing a great job distinguishing between the pundits and the reality on the ground. Thanx.

Here’s the problem: you can’t win playing against a cheater and Republicans are massive cheaters. Democrats need to cheat just as much as the Republicans, if not more, then people will finally see cheating isn’t the way to go so will move to alternative parties. #CancelDemocrats #CancelRepublicans
Aubergine Bellen Hillary Clinton and the DNC cheated against Bernie Sanders in 2016’s democratic primary! The Democrats are cheating! Or were you talking about cheating against Republicans?
@Rick Voyles Good point but yeah I was talking about cheating against the Republicans.
