Has online activism and doomscrolling through twitter turned politics into just a hobby for people? At what point is it just a way to spend time rather than affect meaningful change? This week Tufts University professor, Eitan Hersh, joins to talk about what he diagnoses as “political hobbyism”, what real political engagement looks like, and argues how this self-gratifying online hobbyism can be detrimental to the real political activism needed to create change.

I am a Canadian citizen who has lived in the US for 13 years, but have been home since 2006 when my partner died. Devastated, I returned home. I am definitely a news junkie, but only for US News… I have been following it since I moved there in the late nineties when Bill Clinton was president. I loved him and found him to be sincere.
I do not subscribe to cable or satellite TV and get all my news on YouTube. I actually watch more of that than I do Netflix or kodi. I have found that I do agree with everything you have to say, and you are definitely one of my favorite newscasters. Rachel Maddow is another of my favorites. I am not the only Canadian focused on American News. Many of my friends are also watching what is going on with our neighbours. We love you deeply and want you to have Health Care and a good life. We pray for you…. You are our brothers and sisters in another land. I hope and pray that someday there will be no borders, and that we will just care for everyone.
I’m so glad that Trump is on his way out, but am really concerned that he will not be out of view if you know what I mean. Please keep up your work. It is imperative that your voice be heard. Please keep up the good work. Jo-Anne from Mississauga Ontario Canada.
Chris! Your eyes! You’re blind!

Government is of, for and by the people… not of, for me by the corporation
Chris , everyone is political now..fear ,transition , the implosion if the central government.. plague across the land – every one cares about something now . Government should ; improve housing for all ! And food grants ; acts to secure the lives of it’s citizens …failing that – government should be replaced-
No twitter, but I do watch your NBC clips on youtube. You are very insightful and non-partisan.
