There’s been a heated national debate over what to call some of the migrant detention centers along the southern border. Are these facilities deserving of the label "concentration camps"? Andrea Pitzer has a uniquely deep perspective on this, having written a global history of concentration camps titled “One Long Night”. This conversation details the lineage of concentration camps, from the late 1800s in Cuba to the death camps of WWII to their most modern iterations we are witnessing today.» Subscribe to MSNBC:

Chris Hayes Podcast With Andrea Pitzer | Why Is This Happening? – Ep 64 | MSNBC
has everyone forgotten the dismal name of Eichmann?
epicly awesome
Almost first!!
When I hear this conversation I think about a song & feel it’s relavent:
I knew a man who lived in fear
It was huge, it was angry, it was drawing near
Behind his house, a secret place
Was the shadow of a demon he could never face
He built a wall of steel and flame
And men with guns to keep it tame
And standing back, he made it plain
That the nightmare would never ever rise again
But the fear and the fire and the guns remain
It doesn’t matter now, it’s over anyhow
He tells the world that it’s sleeping
But as the night came ’round
I heard its lonely sound
It wasn’t roaring, it was weeping
And then one day, the neighbors came
They were curious to know about the smoke and flame
They stood around outside the wall
But of course, there was nothing to be heard at all
“My friends, ” he said, “We’ve reached our goal
The threat is under firm control
As long as peace and order reign
I’ll be damned if I can see a reason to explain
Why the fear and the fire and the guns remain”
I don’t see how it’s so hard to see that it morphed from concentration camps into death camps. Auschwitz started as a concentration camp and at the end was a death camp. Two different things. One evolved into the other.
I can agree with this sort of radio talk only as a way to stay tuned for fighting harder against Trump and his shameful border wall war on migration.
Around 39:30 – “…and Hitler pardoned them.” saying that about guards who were prosecuted for abusing prisoners. This sounds like Trump and the henchmen that have been convicted so far. Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn. Hitler (i.e. Trump) is looking at pardoning them because the whole Russian investigation is a hoax. Queue the Twilight Zone music.
