The CEOs of nearly two hundred companies say it’s not just about shareholders anymore, it’s about stakeholders. Risk Reversal Advisors Principal Dan Nathan, Chairman of Ritholtz Wealth Management, Barry Ritholtz, and “Kochland” author Christopher Leonard join Stephanie Ruhle to discuss how corporate America is trying to change the rules of capitalism and whether we can believe them.

CEOs Say Corporations Need To Change The Rules Of Capitalism | Velshi & Ruhle | MSNBC
If they are serious about this the CEOs will tie their salaries to wages of their front line workers, as is the case in Japan. A CEO can only be paid, say, 50 times more than median wages of their firms. Not holding my breath on that one.
@Logan McLean The Ayn Rand argument, eh?
@Logan McLean Which is why they would be paid 50 times more than a front line worker.
There is no way that a CEO is a 1000+ times more important than anyone.
In America, they believe in greed.
@pakpala1 It’s more than a mere belief. It’s akin to an organized religion with traditions, tenets, approved “holy texts” & hymnal. Any small businesses seen as threatening are labeled heretical & then coopted into the universal church of greed.
smoke screen dont buy it they ar buying time while they gather complete power behind the curtain
Or we could just string a few CEOS up by their shoelaces in the public square. They know they already have caused the next coming recession and they are trying to avoid the pitchforks.
Exactly what I say; build a Frankenstein monster, expect pitchforks and torches. Corporations have become rapacious, crooked and are the biggest welfare queens in history.
You would have to roast a CEO very slowly or else they will be tough and chewy.
#WokeCapitalism while doing business as usual. Thankfully we are not all retar.. oh .. nvm.
I know I don’t care about making more money… Lol
Bernie Sanders effect. They are afraid of Warren and especially Bernie so “NOW” they care. Dont believe them, just a dog and pony show.
What could they do? Even if one of them was elected what power does the POTUS have to change corporate governance?
Yes just in case a progressives should win-no one expected trump to win either. They are just hedging their bets.THEY SHOULD PAY THEIR F—ING TAXES.
More people are working in America today unfortunately there working two or three jobs, Plus a mentally disabled president, nothing would change. 🤔Hmmm
NitsuaNaed
Democrats want nothing but to see our country fail.
@Logan McLean It is already failing most people. Democrats want to eliminate the rampant corruption of the Trump administration. They don’t want coal lobbyists running the EPA or senile Hedge Fund managers running Treasury.
Bryce Brogan
Don’t know how the trump admin is corrupt
English language has never been so hollow.
YEAH RIGHT you let ceos decide that we work for free as slaves.
I’ll believe it when I see it. This is just for publicity.
That is America, today…
G Sauce —yeah, it’s obvious that they’re trying to clean up their IMAGE for appearance sake but what they proposed will make a big dent on the profit margins.
If a progressive got elected, these corporations will more likely to implement it otherwise it’s more business as usual.
start by giving a living wage.
I’ll believe this when I see it. The impulse to short term greed is a tough thing to change. This will not come about without new public policy. Vote Democrat in 2020.
Better yet, let’s get rid of that last boolsheet tax break, and fix the tax laws so that Amazon and Apple don’t pay zero income tax. Vote out the GOP.
General Electric hasn’t paid taxes in decades. And they moved most of their operations out of the country. They laid off 1800 workers, hired 100 new workers then were put on a pedestal by Scott Walker previous crooked governed of Wisconsin. My calculator says that that is 1700 jobs in the red for Walker. But GE got all kinds of incentives.
🙂
I’m not sure Joe Biden is up for it. He’s a “corporate guy”.
Wow. Was this just on American television? I am baffled! Good on you! Don’t believe the Greenwashing. Let your workers unionize, pay higher wages and start paying taxes.
@Logan McLean that’s NOT his doing.
@Logan McLean “raising” … Trump University graduate.
@M P HAHAHA!!!
SHWN SHTS
Who’d think cutting taxes would therefore allow companies to raise wages for their workers. Having extra money allows for more workers and higher pay.
pakpala1
😢
And we still want Citizens United dead and gone.
It’s the reason I no longer trust the Supreme Court.
Why don’t they put Wall St CEO’S in the Jeffery Epstein prison cell then things will change..Just Saying !!
They fear progressivism… But it’s too late for them. They have sucked the middle class in the Western world dry, forcing them to live paycheck to paycheck, and it’s time for them to pay their fair share
More like time to cease their assets.
@hermance That’s not realistic.
They felt the heat coming that’s all. People starting to follow the money. Just wait until they feel the Bern. 🔥
They’re full of crap, these people are not on your side, just ask them what they think about unions.
Overthrow the government and tear down Wall Street. Enough is enough.
Wait a minute….Now that all the 1 percent is filthy rich they want to CHANGE THE RULES!!!!!!!!
