Courts use death rates for litigation purposes and to help how to protect people from certain things killing people like heart attacks from fast food or in the case of my previous comment over serving of alcohol from a bar. If you wanted to say that the guy with a .55 BAC died from coronavirus instead of Alcohol poisoning. His family could not sue the bar that overserved him, (which is illegal) hence why it is illegal. A jury will see that the death certificate says complications due to coronavirus. It’s a slippery litigation slope.

Yes, you’re right, it could be a valuable addition to the arsenal against Covid, and it could also be lethal to some people in some situations. Indeed, many commonly-used drugs can have potentially horrible side-effects if used to treat the wrong conditions, or in the wrong dosage, or without strict supervision. Without sufficient data, prescribing any drug absent sufficient trials and tests is ultimately irresponsible. We don’t yet know which category Hydroxychloroquine is in but early data, while promising in some cases, suggest caution. Neither you nor I are President of the U.S. – or Queen of England – so neither you nor I, nor anyone you’re likely to know, has the best doctor’s in the world dedicating their lives to keeping us safe.
