Hon. Skerrit Detained, Humiliated By Belize Coast Guard

rooseveltSAs we told you last week, the Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit came to Belize for the Independence Festivities as a guest of honour. He told us he got a personal invite of Prime Minister Dean Barrow.

On Saturday, after speaking graciously at the Independence Day Official Ceremonies, Skerrit was taken to San Pedro for a stay at Victoria House. In the afternoon, he was taken by boat to see the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, escorted by a representative of the Tourism Board, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a police escort from Special Branch and his own security. The group was supposed to have been trailed by the Coast Guard for security purposes, which is standard for VIP’s – but the coast Guard vessel didn’t show up on time – so the trip went ahead without them.

Re: A People in arrears.

Hi Chris,

We must not always fall for these statements. The Minister of Finance has every right to ask citizens to honour their tax obligations to their country. This new call by our PM is a smoke screen and red herring that was thrown at us to detract from some of the other major problems confronting the administration.
As you know, gifts to ministers and government officials/employees must be declared, Also gifts are taxable. We know that senators and ministers have indicated they know of direct gifts being given to the PM personally by no other than Hugo Chavez. Are you aware whether these gifts were declared. I know your good friend and SC Tony has declared that Merina Shillingford made a gift of land to the Minister of Finance. Were these gifts declared and the relevant taxes paid on them???

RE: Is Dictatorship Engulfing My Country, Dominica?

Is Dictatorship Engulfing My Country, Dominica?

At a first glance of the aforementioned statement, one can (but not dismiss) a sense of uncertainty and concern worthy of discussion. The question we need to confront ourselves with is; are we capable of discussing the pro’s and con’s, with an un-blinded/biased objectivity, whilst maintaining a degree of civility when we differ?
Do date, the detractors within cannot, and will not engage in a civilized discussion, because of the archaic and primitive modus operandi they continue to employ; “Hell no, we will not go”, and ‘somehow’ have managed to preserve this pervasive ideology with this continuation of speaking ill, and continued belittling of those who are being suggestive by discussion, otherwise. The more I reflect is the more I am disgusted by the silent ones within this forum; their continued perpetuation of this vile and undemocratic practise! Yes your collective silence perpetuates this vile and ignoramus operandi!
Kinda like endorsing a jackass to represent you without the concern of being discredited when the braying becomes idiotic. What did you expect?
Now that I have got my little idiotic rant out of the way, let’s focus on the caption above.

What is the EGRIP?

The Governments of Dominica, Grenada and St. Lucia have each received soft loan financing in the amount of 1.5 Million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), equivalent to US$ 2.4 Million, from the World Bank for implementation of the OECS Electronic Government for Regional Integration Project (EGRIP).

The loans are being provided under a special facility of the concessional lending arm of the World Bank, the International Development Association (IDA).

Remembering President Hugo Chavez Frias

Remembering President Hugo Chavez Frias
By
Gabriel J. Christian, Esq.
The fox which seeks entry into the chicken coop either feigns innocence or disinterest in his prey so as to lull the farmer into inattention. However, no one who desires to rectify historic wrongs can be asleep on his or her watch. And we must honor those who were alert to their historic duty; in particular those who guarded the best interests of the poor.

MOUNTAIN NAMES

(The following is an extract from Steinberg Henry’s upcoming novel “Calypso Drift: An Archive Of Sorts”

While Tarina Simon in song was calling on the Bishop of Roseau to declare his strength for resolution and bonding, he was present at another level. In my 2005 writings, I did not envision him in that role. I saw the churches, denominations, sects, meditators, Kalinagos, Muslims and Rastafarians/Dreads of the Order Of Nyahbinghi circled in prayer and meditation to protect a nation-state. Then I caught internetted extracts from a major environment conference. Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation and a group of conferees had gathered at the foot of The Holy Mountain – Morne Trois Pitons, that place I love. Ha-ha.
