Dominica Makes Formal Request to IMF for Resources Under the Exogenous Shocks Facility

Roseau, Dominica – July 10, 2009……. As the effects of the global economic and financial crisis continue to impact negatively on small and vulnerable economies like Dominica, the Dominica Government has joined the Governments of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia in making a formal request to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for resources under the Rapid-Access Component of the Exogenous Shocks Facility (ESF). Dominica is seeking SDR 3.28 million (US$5 million).

Minister Highlights Benefits of Boetica Rural Integrated Development Programme

Roseau, Dominica – July 1, 2009……. Minister for Community Development, Culture, Gender Affairs and Information, Hon. Loreen Bannis-Roberts highlighted the multi-faceted nature of a special programme aimed at poverty reduction being implemented by the Dominica Social Investment Fund in the community of Boetica.

Speaking at the second Annual General Meeting of the Dominica Social Investment Fund in Boetica recently, Hon. Bannis-Roberts lauded the benefits of the Boetica Rural Integrated Development Programme to the entire community of Boetica.

Local People Around Cabrits National Park to Benefit from $300,000 Grant Under OPAAL Project

Roseau, Dominica – July 1, 2009……. Persons living in the vicinity of the Cabrits National Park are expected to benefit from a project entitled the Livelihoods Sub-Project under the OECS Protected Areas and Associated Livelihoods Project (OPAAL).

Launched at the Cabrits National Park recently, the community-based project is valued at over EC$300,000.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Matthew Walter said the goal of the Livelihoods Sub-Project is to contribute to poverty reduction in communities in and around the Cabrits National Park.
