    1. @David Mullin because we dont live in a society based on needs, if the government and police say certain citizens can own guns, whats the problem?

i still dont understand how taking guns from government vetted law abiding citizens is going to stop criminals

    1. @Life’s Laboratory Yeah stolen by criminals who have no regard for the law. Why should legal owners be punished for the actions of criminals?

    2. @Life’s Laboratory The number of guns stolen from legal gun owners and then used in crimes in extremely low(in Canada). Sure they are legally produced or bought in the States but the overwhelming percentage of guns used in Canada are smuggled in illegally by gangs that DO NOT follow any laws we already have. How will this new law change anything other than negatively affect law abiding citizens? It’s alot like the war on drugs…..the drugs are winning. No law will change that.

    3. Yes, which is why much more funding was given stopping guns from crossing our border. We can ban handguns domestically while reducing the amount that illegally cross the border. It’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time

    1. We need to send our mps to talk to them. I am sure the criminals will understand that they only want whats best for the community and hand over their pistols. Only their pistols though. 😅🤣

    1. why? 3D printers cannot print the internal components of a gun. Criminals still need a legal gun for the inner components.

  1. This is like making opioids illegal. Oh wait, they already are! And is the problem gone? Nope, Quite the opposite. Except we aren’t talking about addiction here, we are talking about gang violence. Does it magically go away when guns are made illegal? This answer may shock you…. NOPE

    1. Banning them is a step that helps, but it’s not enough you are right. More needs to be done to decrease gun violence that’s for sure.

  2. In an unrelated story, the government of Canada plans to maintain the temporary income tax of 1917, for the upcoming fiscal year, 2022.

  3. Sounds to me some particular class of our society is getting scared. About time they figured out there are ramifications for their actions and inaction’s.

  4. Current legal fully licensed handguns owners won’t give them up. They may even get few more before the ban is complete along with whatever firearms they are banning. The current govt fails to address the fact criminals don’t get the guns from legal channels. Until they can plug that alleged aboriginal reserves import loopholes and other means of smuggling, the issues will continue.

    1. @Life’s Laboratory Have you been living under a rock or do you not know how the search function on google works?

    2. @Robert Longley tell me when my dad’s car was too fast I want to sue Chevy for making a car like that

    3. @Life’s Laboratory Not yet but like a gun owner friend of mine in western Canada said, you never know what the Lieberals will do with these guns laws. That guy has 2 cabinets of legally owned stuff including some hand guns, shotguns and rifles. He said he for sure not going to give up what he has right now and I won’t rule out he will buy up what he can also. That guy brings his children to gun range.

  5. This high octane emotion driven issue is useful in distracting from the daily process of running the country which, as in a democracy, is supposed to be subject to the scrutiny and questioning of parliament but is not really. Non-answers to questions in parliament; knee-jerk reactions to situations without adequate, or any, proper investigation; abject apologies to single-issue activist groups about 300-year-old grievances without any kind of historical balance. These guys probably even paid someone to write their university essays (even if they actually attended or graduated). All they can do is buy votes by taking the easy way. I suppose statesmanship vanished after that silly pirouette all those years ago.

    1. If you’re a criminal carrying a gun you need it to protect your life. What sentence would be severe enough that death would be a better option?

  6. I’m sure criminals will be very sad to hear that they no longer can purchase a gun legally 😥

  7. They need to agree on a parliamentary level (house ) before they can move on this legally. That is why this is temporary for now. Another over reach of the government.

  8. This has nothing to do with the legal guns and crime but everything to do with controlling citizens that respect the law. 🤷

  9. “They have no place in any community, in any neighborhood, in any street.” -Marco
So the government will stop using security armed with handguns?
    “That’s different!” -Marco
