Canada is sending four combat-ready battle tanks to Ukraine "in the coming weeks," Defence Minister Anita Anand announced Thursday.
As CTV News first reported, in addition to the initial four Leopard 2 tanks, Canada is considering sending more tanks at a later date.
Anand, announcing this latest shipment of military aid to Ukraine, said that Canada will also be deploying “a number” of Canadian Armed Forces members to train Ukrainian soldiers with the skills they will need to operate this equipment.

We could take Russia. They’ve proven themselves to be weak. We also have friends.
@CC we absolutely wouldnt last a week against Russia. On our own that is. Thankfully if Russia invaded it would be immediately seen as a threat to American sovereignty (kinda like whats happening in europe right now) and they would send the cavalry north in a heartbeat. Canada is the Ukraine of North America. We are the buffer between Russia and the USA. If those two countries go to war, Canada will be a battleground the likes of which has never been seen before.
What none of you are recognizing is that Russia has a defensively based military. It wasn’t properly set up for large offensive maneuvers and made mistakes a year ago.
It has adjusted but is still defense based. Ukraine and their merc helpers have smashed themselves into the Russian defensive wall. The UKR stronghold at Bakhmut is now encircled.
The Russian offensive has tentatively begun. Nothing Ukraine or the west can do will stop the slow and methodical march.
Don’t be concerned about Russia invading anywhere off its continent. It’s not a belligerent aggresor like America.
@CC how exactly is Russia weak? Ukraine is basically being armed by 40 different countries, and they still are having very limited success against Russia. Russia still controls over 80% of Ukraine’s southern coastline. Bakhmut is also looking like it’s going to fall to Russia in a matter of weeks. Ukraine took Kherson because it was handed to them by Russia. But they still don’t control even half of the Kherson oblast.
Park the 4 close enough to each other and one single missile could take them all out

If we let Russia get away with conquering & committing genocide on a peaceful neighbouring country it opens the floodgates to any dictator in the world who would do the same. This is an investment into our own security. It’s also the right thing to do.

The probable reason that only 4 will be sent is that we will send each one tank in a CC-117 transport plane (Canada has 4). Upon delivery, those planes will be down for maintenance for the rest of the year… Or we send them by boat to Ukraine, and that will take 6-8 weeks…
