Can America Get The Third Party It Wants? | Morning Joe | MSNBC
The people need to step up and stop electing crooks , keep politics out of the churches, and get the constitution right .
These reforms are possible and should be demanded by the american people. Remember: In 1920 a weird anti-alcoholic movement managed to impose prohibition on a country with great whisky culture! If such a stupidity is possible then a new election system should be a trivial thing 😁
@NEAR TERM EXTINCTION – HUMAN it is also politics that prevent the minimum wage from being raised to keep pace with inflation
So you saying democracy don’t work? Wow you kinda slow.
No, we need to keep churches out of politics, not the other way around. The Johnson Rule is not being applied. Any church that allows political activity to happen at a church function should lose its tax exempt status. The Catholic Church is the largest property owner in the US, has most of the hospitals in this country, yet pays no taxes and constantly meddles in politics.
I couldn’t have said it better. Religions are like a virus, they keep mutating and killing. It’s not that I don’t believe in a higher power, I just don’t believe in man’s idea of a creator.
Yes split the gqp into two so they never ever win again . Everytime the Dems make any progress we get a gop president soon after who throws us into the stone age
@Hastiin Naakei Medina nah. You guys are the problem lmao. You are the ones that need to go and you will 🤣
@Jay Hay No. Last time I checked, over 50 percent of the Democrat Party didn’t want to separate into a progressive party. We are making the world a better place. You are nothing but a roadblock for common sense change.
Very true. In 1929, the Republicans crashed the economy and then the Dems came in and fixed it. In the early 70’s, the Republicans crashed the economy and then the Dems came in and fixed it. In the late 80’s, the Republicans crashed the economy and then the Dems came in and fixed it. In 2007, the Republicans crashed the economy and then the Dems came in and fixed it. During the past few years, Trump and the Republicans crashed the economy and then the Dems came in and will hopefully fix it again. Same pattern, over and over again.
As political commentator and former Republican presidential advisor Mark McKinnon so aptly put it just recently, “The Republican party is at dysfunction junction.” May disagree with conservative ideology and with their stances on many issues, but do value and respect LOYAL opposition–a duty that the GOP has for too long forgotten and abdicated, putting personal and party interests before country. That is not only harmful to their party, it is harmful to our democracy and institutions. And it has come to represent a clear a present danger to our nation, a serious threat to our very security.
All of this is mentioned because it is firmly believed that this is not a time for diplomatic, soft-spoken words. This is not a time to be Pollyannaish about our current political landscape, but a time for frankness, a time for acknowledgment of defects, a time for confronting stark unpleasant realities. Our democracy is a fragile construct, only as sturdy, vibrant, and enduring as we maintain it, requiring constant vigilance and due diligence. Just as we don’t forget Pearl Harbor, or 9/11, even more so the attack against our nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021 by fascist Reich-wing domestic terrorists incited to insurrection by a deranged President against his own government must never be forgotten or forgiven.
Thus, we MUST condemn both cowardly, corrupt Republican so-called “leaders” defying truth, justice, duty, democracy, and Constitution–and their dysfunctional political party that behaves as a cult–in the strongest possible terms, using the most muscular language that can be mustered. For it is necessary; the very fate of our nation depends upon it. Disaster was narrowly averted with the defeat of Trump, with Democratic control of the House and Senate, but the battle for the soul of this nation is far from over, and we must never again allow ourselves to become complacent. And so it is vitally imperative that we remind each other of this, that we impress these things upon the rest of the citizens of this nation.
Franklin Roosevelt won the election of 1936 by the widest margin in US history, in part, because he was an outspoken anti-Wall Street and anti-war profiteer candidate. Why did Obama win Indiana and Ohio in 2008? Because voters there thought he was a Democratic Populist. .Unfortunately, that was not the case. Any candidate will overcome “identity politics” in Red States if they go after “The Bankers.” The Democratic Party is no longer the Party of FDR, JFK or RFK. Stop blaming the GOP for your sell-outs, dysfunctions and bourgeois liberal malaise. https://www.masson.us/blog/i-welcome-their-hatred-fdr-1936/
How about knocking off that antiquated electoral college system? Without that, no capitol riot on Jan, 6.
@Piotr Trebisz They didn’t respond too well when Trump called them on their NATO obligations, did they? That said, their trade structure is an effective weapon against anything China may want to try to disrupt, let’s hope they use this wisely with other trading blocs then, shall we?
@Jonas P As a European myself I wish the EU would act stronger and united when dealing with China. However we have some authoritarian governments here which are used by China as troyan horses 🤬
@Jonas P 38 states have to agree to changes. electoral college is gop’s only hope for pres. win. so not going to happen

Yeah, don’t be so sure. It was about Trump, not the republicans.
Introducing Compulsory Voting. Make sure that all candidates must go through written exams and interviews and physical and psychological evaluation. Introduce a system that candidates for higher office such as President must demonstrate that he run a state or a big city or a big district
What you propose actualy exists, in Taiwan to be more precise. They have 2 additional branches of government, one is the examination branch which tests and audits candidates for public service including the president.
The other one is the control branch which monitors the performance of the other 4 branches and can also initiate impeachments either on its own or by a people’s petition.
In Hungary they also had an additional unique branch, a fiscal court which kept an eye on government spending. These 3 additional branches would be a great supplement as safeguards against the 3 most anoying evils of politics: Incompetence, Misconduct, Waste of Money
Compulsory voting could be combined with a unique democratic innovation from 1990s Russia when they were a democracy. On their ballots was an “Against all candidates” box. If this imaginary anti-candidate won the vote then the election had to be repeated and none of the guys from the 1st round was allowed to run again.
In addition one should implement some form of more proportional voting. A multi-party-system in which no party has a majority adds another layer of division of powers. No matter which is the strongest party, with less than 50% they can’t screw up alone.
“SCOTUS Rejects Trump’s Last-Ditch Attempt to Keep His Tax Documents Secret”
-Daily Beast
February 22
🤣👋👋
@Ba Paoi stop
Trump Organization and Trump are going DOWN for massive tax fraud. This is just the beginning…
Gee, it only took Republican SCOTUS over four months to FINALLY issue a stay, allowing the release of Toxic Trump’s tax returns to prosecutors and the grand jury. “All that’s evident is the justices have diverged from long-standing practice and hindered the investigation of a former president.” Republicans have turned SCOTUS into the Supremely Partisan Court of the United States, handing truth, justice, and America a huge loss.
@Richard Barber This is the second time Trump had a hearing about his taxes with SCOTUS how many chances does he get?
@J Annibal Good I hope SDNY takes the whole Trump family out they all need to go to prison.
Ranked Choice voting works fine in Maine. The real key to improve our Democracy is to end “Citizens United”. Big corporate interests have never been good for our country.
@Tessmage Tessera Why would getting rid cf Citizen’s United require a constitutional amendment? Should be able to pass legislation to do that, one would think. Seems unlikely to happen though, since politicians want the money and are willing to trade political advantages and benefits for the money.
Why not cardinal choice? In cardinal choice you give grades to each candidate independently, for example 0 to 10 points or A to F. This system collects more information about what the people want.
@Corey Ham Because it was a Supreme Court decision… which means that the only higher authority would be the Constitution.
Yes, non-partisan primaries, ranked voting, abolishment of the antiquated, undemocratic Electoral College, campaign finance limits that get dark money and big money out of elections!
@Tessmage Tessera That makes no sense to me. Congress make new laws all the time. Therefore they can make new laws about political contributions or any other matter within their legislative authority. They could nullify the effect of Citizens United if they had the will to write new laws to do that … which they may well not because they benefit from big donations. The Supreme Court only rules on the legality of any laws passed, but they have no authority to overturn laws that are within the authority of congress to pass.
There ARE other parties, the monetary hurdles and others keep them from being viable at the national level. The two major parties write the rules to maintain their authority. It’s wrong!
That’s why the two parties get together each year to write the rules together. Way better for them if the bribe money (ahem donations) isn’t split 3 ways.
Nothing will improve until we limit money in politics. Although ranked choice would be a great start
This is what Richard Wolff has been saying so often.
“3rd party candidate effected the will of the voters or could have…”
YEAH, that’s the point!
What kind of nonsense question was that?
this is hilarious, every vote is literally the will of the people. if they cant read that as they are doing something wrong that is causing people to walk away from the party then they do not deserve to hold power. the establishment is terrified of a 3rd party.
There might soon be with the destruction of the republican party guess that’s what it took!!
There have been other parties. They don’t seem to get enough participation.
Hello
How are you doing?
Hope you and your family are safe
Tax the churches, term limits,no PAC money.get rid of lobbyists 👍🇺🇸
The two party system literally grooms puppets through all their foundations and it’ll never get better
Russia’s plan worked like a charm. This country is so fractured even the Gorilla Glue girl’s hair can’t bring us back together.
As we speak Russia is trying to topple our legal system. They are pitting the people of America against each other by spreading lies on the internet continuously. This is resulting in violence. They know exactly who to instigate.
@Truth Teller Quit blaming our dysfunction on an outside force.
@rich w if you think this election was stolen you are definitely a special type of stupid, just saying 🤷♂️
@william willie when you solve issues, you have to go to the root of the source, keep acting like that you’ll never get anything accomplished 😂🤣😂.
America’s plan worked like a charm.
Before a third party is implemented, the problem of mis-information must be addressed, get the big money out of politics
America should have a third Party! The reason the Republicans and Democrats don’t want a 3rd Party is that we the People who vote will finally have the power!
Eliminate the Electoral College and perhaps make the winner the one who receives the most votes. You know, the way every other vote in the world is done.
Agreed. The most votes should win, not based on the dominant vote per district in this state or that state. It would eliminate the battleground state campaigning and force the candidates to campaign in ALL the states instead of the ones that have more electoral college votes.
We need money out of politics and we must abolish the electoral college, quickly
@Piotr Trebisz ~ Who’s “we,” Doc? If you’re referring to Germany, there is so many things wrong with your presumption and ludicrous prescription that one hardly knows where to begin. The assumption is that you can’t be serious.
@wily wascal It’s gallows humor
@Piotr Trebisz ~ OK. That was our first assumption. Then, when observed your YouTube account was fairly new, suspected something more nefarious. Thanks for clearing that up, and sorry for the misunderstanding. Although, there are a lot of wackos on the internet who would say something like that in earnest, or just to troll. Thought I had seen your postings before on YouTube, and didn’t remember you being that type, but wasn’t sure. Was hoping it was just satire.
@wily wascal It was meant in a sarcastic way 😉
@wily wascal Which Postings did you see?
Many people once thought that emigrating to the USA was a good idea.
By now, America is a great place to emigrate away from.
Ranked Choice voting, abolish Electoral College, strike down “Citizens United”, limit political finance will go a long way to fixing our system.
Why not cardinal choice? In cardinal choice you give grades to each candidate independently, for example 0 to 10 points or A to F. This system collects more information about what the people want. You can always convert a ranked-choice ballot to cardinal-choice, but it’s not always possible in the other direction.
Yes, non-partisan primaries, ranked voting, abolishment of the antiquated, undemocratic Electoral College, campaign finance limits that get dark money and big money out of elections!
