Racers from Around the World Encouraged to Apply for
Endurance Challenge Scheduled for April 7-11
Roseau, Dominica – (January 2014) – Do you love nature and are you captivated by a thrilling adventure-hiking challenge? Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-EEK-a, and not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) is seeking teams for the 2nd Annual Nature Island Challenge scheduled for April 7-11. Organizers for the Nature Island Challenge, an endurance challenge set on the stunning Caribbean island of Dominica, are looking for accomplished, socially connected trail/adventure racers seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“The Nature Island Challenge is all about fun survival challenges in a beautiful tropical setting,” said Colin Piper, Dominica’s director of tourism. “We created this race to be challenging but also fantastic fun for racers from around the world!”
Eight teams of four will be selected to compete in the four-day stage hiking race that will cover more than 50 miles along the renowned Waitukubuli National Trail. Racers will also encounter adventure, photo and cultural challenges that involve strategy, problem solving and creativity.
The competition features team members alternating on daily 10-15 mile-long trail runs. All four teammates reunite following each daily race to participate in a team challenge. The Nature Island Challenge is scored on a points system based on the finish order in each day’s trail run and the special challenges.
Interested teams must apply by January 24, 2014. The competition is open to males and females above 18 years of age. Teams will be notified of their selection by February 7.
Participants are encouraged to find team sponsorships to offset travel and race fees. The Nature Island Challenge is a televised competition. The registration fee is $1,000 USD per team, which covers six nights lodging (double occupancy), all meals (including water and snacks during competitions), on-island transportation, event orientation, closing party and team jerseys.
The registration form and additional details are available at www.natureislandchallenge.com.
