Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro does not concede election | USA TODAY #Shorts

President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro refused to concede his election loss in his first comments since election day, but his chief of staff told reporters he has been authorized to begin the transition process.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has done it again: Twenty years after first winning the Brazilian presidency, the leftist defeated incumbent Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday in an extremely tight election that marks an about-face for the country after four years of far-right politics.

With more than 99% of the votes tallied in the runoff vote, da Silva had 50.9% and Bolsonaro 49.1%, and the election authority said da Silva’s victory was a mathematical certainty.

It is a stunning reversal for da Silva, 77, whose 2018 imprisonment over a corruption scandal sidelined him from the 2018 election that brought Bolsonaro, a defender of conservative social values, to power.

    1. I don’t think they should considering it wasn’t an election week in the USA and ballot came in after polls closed

    1. Eat what up? Everyone in Brazil knows what’s going on. Bolsonaro is almost exactly like Putin. In both of their early days they did a lot of work removing corruption and organized crime, and thats why both of them are popular, however, what people didn’t know until it was too late is that every time Bolsonaro or Putin removed a corrupt politician or mafia boss, they were replaced with one loyal to Bolsonaro/Putin.

    1. They only gave you half of the story. Why didn’t they show the statement given by his secretary 2 seconds later saying that he already started the transition of power to the next government?!

    1. Nobody influenced anything, he knows and the people know they have been “2020d” and don’t want their country to become Venezuela 2.0 we need a new electoral process that everyone trusts. Get rid of the computers.

    2. @DEMONcRATS With a username like DEMONcRATS I’m not surprised in the least bit to hear this conspiracy from a brainwashed MAGA cultist. 😂

    1. That’s what Republicans say because they want to be in charge of vote tabulation specifically so that they can steal elections.

    1. If you haven’t seen the history of the phrase “America First” or the American First Committee from the 30s and 40s. They were the first Republicans who called themselves Patriots for trying to overthrow our government to save America by making her Authoritarian. There was another group from father Coughlin trying to do the same thing. It’s learned later several groups were paid from Hitler by a George Viereck. Amazing it’s not better known.

  1. He absolutely conceded. Reaffirmed the constitution and citizens right to protest – peacefully – and already appointed a delegate to initiate the transition of power. Bolsonaro is no trump and Lula is no Biden. A reasonable understanding of recent developments in Brazil points to clear differences
