CNN's Erin Burnett Dr. Sanjay Gupta respond to a statement from Dr. Deborah Birx, a top White House coronavirus official, in which she says she wishes the US had more stringent lockdown measures in place at the beginning of the pandemic, similar to Italy.
#CNN #NEWS
Dr. Birx should have spoken up in the beginning instead of pandering to trump.
@Otto Tater – what you fail to understand is that the system of government here is different from other countries so difficult to keep a highly infectious virus under control.
Which other country in the world that the president has to beg Congress and Senate for money?
You can’t blame trump but leave out your leftists governors. They also have constitutional powers over their states.
@Kay Bel You’re wrong. She said that she won the popular vote by nearly 3 million. She knows how the electoral college works. FYI, if not for the electoral college, republicans wouldn’t win a presidency ever again. Even your daddy trump has said it “duh, if everyone gets to vote, the republicans would never win again, duuhhh.”
@Kay Bel the only way the United States is different in that regard is self entitlement stubbornness ignorance. Countries like Italy that got hit hard where places where they felt that being social was more important than being responsible and it’s the same problem in Florida and Texas and all of the other states where defiance and self is more important than logic reason or responsibility countries where did ministration can order them down because it’s a dictatorship do well in countries that have self-discipline do well but this is all on citizen attitudes it’s clear based on exactly which states are most defiant are the ones their most infected currently Georgia Florida Texas California
Florida is clearly as bad office anywhere in the world according to the news but that is not because Governor DeSantis is defiant and rebellious of Trumps instructions and wishes. We are not at all a leftist state here. come down here you will see Flags you will see colors and they will not be Blue unless they’re also next to Red and White.
Why the hell didn’t she say this 6 months ago? I’m so over her loyalty to Trump
@Factsthat Hurtfeelings do they pay you .20cents a comment of .10cents a comment to post this nonsense?
Birx and Fauci bungled it the President did everything they said and more, Fauci said so under oath.
@Jestermon1 … what are you talking about? we know what fauci said and we know what trump did. trump berated, denounced and sabotaged the CDC’s every effort to control this crisis. trump even ignored the advice of his own “official” whitehouse guidlines. trump’s the moron who started the anti-mask, anti-distancing, anti-quarantine INSANITY! he ADVISED people to seek dangerous INTERNAL ultra violet light and hydroxychloroquine treatments. he refused to use the war production act to produce emergency supplies.
these lies told by the trump cult ARE INSANE! WILL THEY EVER STOP??!!
@Factsthat Hurtfeelings … MY GOD! that’s IS the STUPIDEST THING I EVER READ! protestors killing people? are there ANY LIES that you aren’t willing to spread for trump’s benefit?
@Factsthat Hurtfeelings Wow. How does your brain work to come up with that?
Too bad Birx didn’t voice the need for a strict lockdown 6 months ago.
Instead she just stood behind Trump with a blank look on her face.
Sometimes nodding approvingly.
yeah Trump needs to institute curfews NOW. no going to the store without government permission slips. mandatory masks and gloves. and then the vaccine should also be mandatory. if he doesn’t do that he’s a dictator
She, and Dr Fauci, recommended over and over again to shutdown, and other preventive measures be followed but the faux-scientist Trump didn’t follow their recommendations! He said multiple times “Dr Fauci has made mistakes, he’s been wrong many times”.. Trump truly believes that he was right for not following his experts recommendations, because remember that in his mind, this right now is a success story, a successful handling of the pandemic based on his hunch and unbelievable understanding of “those” things. 😒
Americans are way too soft & self-centered to come together and do something for the greater good.
🖕
Maungl, that’s not at all true. This is a failure of leadership, not American citizens. Our president only seems to care about the economy, not our health. Hopefully in a few months, we will have a better president.
@A Tl a crashed economy would cause the deaths of millions of people….
@A Tl the doctors told us all to wear masks, our people refused. Leadership was also a failure, but the citizens dont get a free pass.
@Hallking78
“a crashed economy would cause the deaths of millions of people”
that’s odd.
you have more money(in total terms) than any other country.
you could have easily kept your economy from crashing while implementing a strict lockdown.
sure, it would have suffered, but most of the economic damage would have been on the super rich, the people who can easily take it with no problems.
Why couldn’t she say that in the first place.
She has lost all of her credibility, she should stand behind Dr Fauci.
She left Dr Fauci to get threats on his own. So bad.
And Fauci has credibility at this point? All these experts have been so off.
A bit late there doc. Kinda pulled a Susan Collins.
They’re all waiting until the last minute lol. Sad but true. VERY SAD
And she sat there quietly while drump promoted injecting bleach. Brave people speak up, she is mute, no need to listen to her anymore.
Mr Pillow…omg what position is he applying for
America We are a Joke.
SAD but true. Ugh.
Sleep-Force lol
I joke of course just to keep from pulling out my hair.
Like that was a great idea! We already have NASA!🤣😂😂
My pillow (snake oil salesman) is probably vying for head of CDC or FDA
She could have said that at the podium 3 months ago.
it’s ok she PROBABLY was fearful of the orange nut. like others but they will get more nerve each day now. knowing he ain’t got much time to go. ya know I think if he could PULL it off. he’s be the same as Kim in jong. it’s he knows it will never happen in our country.the people would not allow that . but I do believe he’s that BAD
Hey it could’ve been worse, Biden could’ve been in charge and not closed down travel directly from China which would’ve made things even worse.
@sonnyblack0870 Sure, even though studies have shown that when Trump closed travel from China it was done too late. So the one thing he brags about regarding his response to this pandemic; he even managed to screw that up. Also, he only shut down Chinese nationals, NOT Americans, who could just as easily have the virus. This makes zero sense. “Yeah, we will let American citizens come into the country who could be carrying the virus, but not Chinese people who could be carrying the virus.” That’s not xenophobic in any way, right champ?.
But don’t you worry your head off. Trust me nobody wants to come here now, nor are we allowed to go anywhere else. There you got what you wanted. Perfect immigration policy. AMERICA FIRST!!!!! 😂
Perrye Golson First off I have to thank you for calling me the champion, that’s awesome. Second I actually agree, in hindsight it should’ve been done sooner, but I’m not sure the president alone has the power to prevent American citizens from reentering their own country if they haven’t violated any rules, I believe that’s a regulation that needs to be drafted and voted on, but I could be wrong.
That said if you take issue with the way the travel ban was implemented by Trump how do you feel about Biden suggesting early on that a ban was an overreaction to the virus? Also even Fauci early on said the ban was pointless, but then later revised his sentiment saying specifically that Trumps travel ban saved lives.
sonnyblack0870 It probably did save lives. I have no doubt it did. And if Biden had screwed it up, I would criticize him for it also. In fact no one is saying that the travel ban was a bad move, just that it was done too late and that it seemed odd to ONLY ban the Chinese, not the Americans. And no it wouldn’t have violated the constitution to make them quarantine until they were cleared by doctors before entering the US.
My problem with him is that outside of the Chinese travel ban his response has been monumentally bad. He never put together a testing and tracing plan. There was one that Kushner had ready to go but the administration decided to not implement it and let the virus run rampant since it was hitting blue states hardest at the time. They felt it was in their best political interests because they could shift the blame to democratic governors.
I am sorry for being sarcastic in my answer to you but I am so frustrated with people who just praise Do-Nothing Trump or who cut him so much slack when all he does is shift blame, take no responsibility for his inaction, create confusion about the virus, create an anti-mask culture that is causing the virus to linger around longer and get mad that he isn’t as popular as he wants to be. This man is no leader in any way. You and I BOTH KNOW that Obama would have been tarred and feathered and possibly beheaded if this had been his virus response. I’m just so tired of the double standard.
She lost all credibility when she stood aside Trump as he said it would just go away – like a miracle – sometimes it goes away when the weather turns warm – it just goes away.
She lost cred when trump spoke of injected bleach & she sheepishly responded.
It’s true: in Italy this crisis was taken very seriously, bc we realised the severity of the situation. The country was caught by surprise and unprepared. For a time the situation was desperate, we had politicians who were in tears, lamenting that whole towns had lost their grandparents. Thank God for our strong leader (Giuseppe Conte) who was able to unite every political party and this issue remained a medical- scientific issue, void of political undertones. Our government took severe measures to flatten the curve. No one was happy to be confined inside, especially those living in apartments (and there are many families living in apartments), businesses suffered tremendously, but the government came through and moneys were disbursed to people to help. Our people understood that this sacrifice was the Italian thing to do. I’m proud of my country! I live in Florida and unfortunately I see a completely different attitude among American people. Trump is the great divider, and that’s a shame!
Here in manila, if your caught outside without a mask youll be arrested.
Glad I don’t live in the Philippines!
@Mike Holcomb I’m sure they are too.
When did Hitler move there?
@Ragman haha man you really got em
Wow, really? I would think Duturd would just have you shot on the spot.
You’ll start to see Donnies lackey’s distance themselves from tRump as the ship sinks.
Rats jump off of sinking ships.
I live in Italy. It has been hard. People weren’t allowed out of their homes. But companies weren’t allowed to fire. Public healthcare was in place. And the government isn’t completely nuts
@Newdark Neoss Obviously people would need to be paid to stay at home in lieu of being able to work. Just like in the United States where there was a stimulus. I fail to see your point. How else do you keep the entire economy from collapsing?
Italy also took this seriously and didn’t have a raving lunatic telling them that the virus would just disappear, nor was their leader throwing their top doctor under the bus when he tried to inform the public.
@Newdark Neoss the lockdown happened on March. The european stimuli are still talked about subjects that were decided on July. so thank you but implying that Italy did what It did only thanks to eu money is BS
@Majin Porterhaus. Well I am looking to get a beat down soon. I wear my mask and carry a can of Lysol to spray my own basket. When people put their hands on my shoulder and say excuse me to lean over me and get something I want to spray them. Soooo that beating is probably coming. 😂
@Majin Porterhaus. Pathetic.
@Mantas Look in the mirror sometime bud I’m sure you are the most pathetic person in this comment thread.
I am from Milan and I need to correct a detail: even though I live in the epicentre of the epidemic in March we have always been allowed to get out of our home once a day, not once every week, for our immediate necessities. We were only required to fill in a form stating the reason for doing so and sign it. The point is that nobody wanted to go out: it was scary, the only noise we could hear was that of the ambulances, everything but supermarkets and pharmacies was closed, we had to keep a distance of at least one metre from everybody else, wear a mask and gloves. Most of us knew people who were ill: in Lombardy we have around 1.700 deaths per 100.000 inhabitants. Most people complied with the rules because it was absolutely vital for us to do so: if we had got ill, our hospitals could have not cured us since they were already well beyond capacity.
Won’t listen to Fauci but all ears for the My Pillow nut.
@Thresa Graham Yeah, I was talking with a relative who has gone off the deep end with the Qanon or whatever. He was explaining to me this elaborate conspiracy and how it’s already happening. He said things like “The Jews control the media” whatever that means. Every time I asked him a question that would in some way validate what he is saying might be true, he had no answers. I mean it was so easy to pick apart. He said the masks are a form of control. I asked him how? I can buy whatever mask I want to buy, I can take it off if I want to, and we were sitting in a restaurant and no one was wearing a mask because the tables were spread apart. He had no explanation. He said that the first phase of the take over was to keep people in their homes. He said “That’s where it all starts.” But when I again, told him that we are currently sitting in a restaurant having dinner RIGHT NOW and all you have to do it look at people moving around, we are free to go where we want to go. Again, no answers for that. Then he said that the next “phase” is to take away money, and he said that it’s already happening (referring to the national coin shortage). I said, Ummm, no, you can still use currency. Also, most people now use credit or debit cards instead of cash and have been for years. I said Covid-19 has disrupted the mining of coins for the moment. He said there is no virus, even though we BOTH went to the funeral of a person who died from it.
How do you begin to try and change their mind? What do you do?
@Perrye Golson it is really shocking. I honestly have got to point, as of today, of not watching any more news on the virus as it is blowing my mind that otherwise intelligent people are pushing this nonsense. I think it a waste of time trying to make some of them at least, understand. They just not interested. If they don’t get it, 6 months down the line, I just don’t know what to think. It heartbreaking, all those lives lost. I worried if I keep watching these things I will lose my sanity😱😱😷😷👍
@Thresa Graham Well thankfully most people use logic and common sense. But those that are full indoctrinated into the Trump cult will stick with him to the better end. They would rather go down with the Titanic than just jump in a lifeboat.
The doctor I’d wish to listen to, would have no financial gain.
Susan Brandt The My Pillow guy isn’t even a doctor at all. The fact that he is even talking about this is both laughable and shocking at the same time.
To be fair, getting the certificate here in Italy was straightforward. You went on the government website, printed off the certificate (an A4 page) filled it in, signed it and off you went (with a mask on). Neighbours and friends helped each other out for printing, grocery/medicine shopping etc and essential services continued. The economy has been battered but the curve was flattened.
Would this really have been unthinkable in the USA?
Thank you for the additional information. I knew that the situation in Piemont and Lombardy, specifically in Bergamo, where lots of workers had arrived from China, was very critical, but I never knew that people were not allowed out of their houses throughout the entire country for weeks. Here in Germany, we were allowed to go shopping for groceries and medicaments, and that was ALL – after a while, we were also allowed to go out for walks or exercising alone or as couples – with masks, as soon as they were available, and adhering to social distancing – and I believe most people felt that was sufficient for the duration. I think we would be prepared to do this again if necessary.
@Fredric Kroll stop ur BS, worker from china???
@Fredric Kroll in Italy things went a little differently, the lockdown was really rough because it was not “Just some weeks with rights progressely increased in a fast way”, cases were already present in a very large number so the first few weeks of lockdown did not slow the spreading very much. In total it went from early March to middle April. The first month you could only go out in order to buy groceries (One person for family), go to your essential job or for an health related emergency. Funerals and any kind of event couldn’t be done and people couldn’t move from one region to another in order to not spread the virus more so families members had to wait in order to go back to their loved ones. Even the dogs could only be walked up to 200mt from your home. Rules could be a little stricter or less strict based on the region you lived in since the governorns had the power to slightly adapt them to the specific region’s need. High fines and in some cases even arrests were put upon the few people that didn’t respect the rules. By middle April people could take walks freely in their region, masks were mandatory and week by week some businesses could reopen. In order to go back to “live normally” we had to wait until June but obviously some rules stay permanent even now since covid Is still a thing but they’re not intrusive ones (like i.e. shops can have only half the people of the capacity they usually had before covid)
So for us, the lockdown is not something that we can think about or relive without a heavy heart.
@Ares Walker Here in Baden-Württemberg/Germany the lockdown was very similar. As for me personally, from March 16 to May 20 I left my apartment only to buy groceries and medicaments – and went for 20-30 minute walks in the middle of the night in places where it was very improbable to meet anyone. As I had always had a certain ambition to become a hermit, I actually enjoyed it – but this would not have been possible without telephone and internet.
@Fredric Kroll ha! You made me laugh with your hermit comment. If i well remember that area should be one of the worst hit in Germany right? Or am i wrong? How are things going on right now?
She must have been told her services are no longer needed!
A little to late women! Should have been saying that when you were “backing up” trump. Bring back Fauci. American people have lost faith in you Dr.Birx
Facts I can’t believe she let an idiot kill her reputation she worked her whole life for smh
I agree with you both. Since she sat by as Trump was talking about injecting disinfectant, I haven’t listened to anything she’s said. I guess since he called her pathetic, she has found her voice. Too late!
Totally agree, I cannot have respect for her now.
I mean Fauci’s also lost his credibility. You still got faith in any of these experts?
The Scarf lady “wishes”. Isn’t that just so cute?
She loss all credibility when she sat there looking stupid when Trump started talking about shooting up with disinfectant. Dr.Anthony Fauci had stayed true!
She lost all credibility when she opened her stupid mouth.
Should know what the hell she’s talking about especially on Italy.
I AGREE. ALWAYS SAID SHE LOOKED STUPID RIGHT ALONG WITH HIM .ITS WORSE WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER & DONT STEP UP FOR INFO THAT COULD MEAN LIFE OR DEATH.
“I WOULDNT WANT HER AS A
DOCTOR. SHE WITHOLDS INFOR
MATION BECAUSE OF HOW ONE
MAN FEELS. I SWEAR THEY THINK
HE’S A. ” G O D”
Dr. Fraudci is a crook.
