    4. @zahrans Trump’s Transportation Department scuttled a safety measure that would have minimized, even prevented the disaster.
      The brake rule in question required that trains transporting hazardous materials be outfitted with electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes, which the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) described back in 2007 as “capable of preventing derailments and shortening train stopping distances.”
      “ECP brakes are to train what anti-lock brakes are to automobiles—they provide better control,” FRA Administrator John Boardman said at the time. “It offers a quantum improvement in rail safety.”
      Trump became president and appointed Elaine Chao, wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, to become the new transportation secretary. The question of ECP brakes passed to her department, which conducted what it termed a “revised cost-benefit analysis.” The value of the lives and health of individuals who might be affected was not factored in. The only consideration was money.

      “The expected benefits do not exceed the expected costs,” the Trump era DOT found.

  4. Be safe President Biden. The best president in my life time & I’ve been voting since Nixon won (though I didn’t vote for him). It is wonderful for us to have a Christian president again. A man of morals who serves us instead of rules over us as democracy is supposed to work.

  7. Thanks to CNN world class reporter/team for her detailed narration of security preparation for this historic visit. The world is watching the event unfolded, and courageous Ukraine needs this trip as an extra boost to definitely win the war over Putin’s aggression. Its visual impact is as stronger as the arm packages that Western countries sent. I am sure Putin and his war machine are watching this trip and re-caliberating the next moves.
    We can see this PR trip is well orchestrated. Since Russian is informed in advance so the presidential entourage was calmly marching while the siren was alarming the background. There is no sign of panic from any people, reporters, or camera men. One would wonders.
    You don’t see much of US security personnels. US security details did a great job to show the world its confidence in protecting US president in a Hollywood-style. It is a great projection that shadowed Putin’s image in his hideous bunkers somewhere in Moscow. Bravo Ukrainian. Victorious yours

  17. _A BIG key theme and tone of the messaging during Biden’s State of the Union speech, is to bring America back to the world stage in a _*_more respectable_*_ way after Trump_ . The idea that you have some politicians who opened up a wider platform for election deniers, conspiracy-theorists, w.suprem, liars, cult-idolaters and far-right-wing hate extremists all with agendas, _are certainly hurting the republicans’ chances to compete in a national election_ .🩸
