Beto: ‘We Are Nearing A Failed State In Texas’ Thanks To GOP Leadership | All In | MSNBC

“We are nearing a failed state in Texas. And it has nothing to do with God, or natural disasters. It has everything to do with the leadership and those in the positions of public trust who have failed us,” says Beto O’Rourke amid Texas’ latest crisis: massive power outages. Aired on 02/16/2021.

Beto: ‘We Are Nearing A Failed State In Texas’ Thanks To GOP Leadership | All In | MSNBC

    1. @Wycliff Studios Last I checked, we are doing fine here. Our lights are on and we had a record revenue year.

    2. @Jesus’ Aquatics right wingers have thrown out loyalty to the constitution and have become corporate whor*s batting for a single man

    3. Remember when blackouts in CA were intentional by the energy companies for profit purposes? Guessing some of that is at work in Texas now, too, if only in neglect of the natural gas equipment now causing the bulk of the outage issues — NOT the wind generators that, reportedly, are only 13% of the issues.

  1. No profit in preparing for emergencies, either when generating power or stockpiling PPE. Capitalism … get used to it. The oligarchs do not care whether you live or die.

    1. @Eric V I’m just saying that blackouts aren’t especially profitable for an energy utility, transmission, or distribution company. So, since capitalism was invoked as the source of the problem, it would be reasonable to expect that investors would seek to protect their revenues. I don’t pretend to have a handle on the Texas situation, but my prediction is it’ll be a failure of policy and catering to parochial interests.

    2. We can only blame ourselves for continuing to vote for people we know that uses culture wars to divide us so we will be distracted by the horrible job and the lack of preparedness that they do.

    3. @Hyperpandas Texas has it’s own power grid. It’s operating efficiencies have been cut to the bone to accommodate nearly free power for corporate users. Thus, no provisions for emergency situations. And before you start quoting more textbook crap at us …. we no more have capitalism here than we do democracy. We are being ruled by an inverted totalitarianism, a corporate welfare state. Watch closely, the Texan power industry will shortly require a bailout.

    4. @RADman 11 Didn’t you just describe a policy shortfall catering to parochial interests, just like I predicted? If Texas has it’s own power grid, then its unlike most Western states, which have an integrated power grid that also includes Western Canada. Of what you’re saying is true, it’s a failure of policy, not capitalism.

  2. This is what happens when you elect people who govern by outdated and dangerous ideologies, not policies based on common sense and facts.

    1. That is who Texas Republicans love that’s why they elected them in a few day those republican supporters would forget all about this and blame it on the democrats

    1. @social xen My guess is you haven’t seen the Frontline documentary on PBS where they go all over the world and in the oceans too documenting the ecological and environmental destruction resulting from plastic and untold millions of deaths of mostly marine animals and a lot of land animals….they even went to the bottom of the ocean.
But, to care you gotta have a conscience.

    2. @Michael Moore Michael Moore ?? “Planet of Humans” Michael Moore ..
Loved the “Climate Change” FRAUD …Love the Crap … As far as your information you need to go back / The Earth has had 5 Ice Ages .. and We are coming out of one HEAT ..it’ s not going to get warmer ..it’s going to get Colder ..

    3. @Michael Moore
      That is demonstrably false.

The *only* “Blue State” that people are moving to is Colorado.

The top 5 states where people are *leaving* are:
      #1: Illinois
      #2: New York
      #3: California
      #4: New Jersey
      #5: Maryland.

The top 5 states where people are *moving to* are:

      #1: Idaho
      #2: Arizona
      #3: South Carolina
      #4: Tennessee
      #5: North Carolina

And just to show you where Texas and Colorado play a role…

      #6: Florida
      #7: Texas
      #8: Colorado

Texas is not on the top of the list of moving destinations, but there are *literally no red states whatsoever* that are shedding population. That is *exclusively* a blue state phenomenon.

The bad news is that some people are leaving blue states, heading for red states and bringing the politics that caused them to flee in the first place with them.

    4. @JMC Ranch And who made that decision to give them control, Texas republicans. Who owns this company most likely a major republican donor or donors. So why are you trying to blame democrats for problems Texas republicans made? Makes no sense.

  3. LOL! “GOP” and “leadership” are mutually exclusive terms. It’s impossible to use them in the same sentence and maintain even a shred of credibility.

    1. Capitalism without reigns is a bullet train without brakes or conductor going downhill at full throttle. Little caring that the track is still being laid and they’re rapidly approaching where there is no more track and only boulders…
But hey, so long as the profits are rolling in big business and their bribes don’t care, despite the fact that they’re ON THAT TRAIN.

Capitalism and Communism have the same root flaw: Both would be perfectly valid economic structures but for one thing: HUMAN GREED.

    2. @Amzar Nacht It’s Nazi concentration camp guards collecting gold teeth fillings because why not. 🤷‍♂️😒

    3. Privatization has led to an increase in efficiency and economic growth. How do people not see this when the facts are clearly visible?

    4. Boundless greed needs to become socially unacceptable. At least part of the problem will end up being greed, if only profit over good maintenance of equipment. “Follow the money”.

  4. Didn’t Abbot want to secede a few months ago and now he’s begging for federal money. So now “socialism” is good. Got it.

    1. The most American thing you can do is misuse and not understand the term “socialism”. I’m looking at both of you, conservatives and liberals.

  5. GOP has already said they are not interested in doing the right thing!! How’s that working out for you Texas???

    1. @Ygritte Snow As they say…SMH. They want the end of times too. I bet they think that this is the beginning of the end of the world.

    2. @Erica Espinosa And that can be dangerous. When one is in belief the end is near they can act in unpredictable ways.

  6. One only needs to see what party is running Texas, no explanation is necessary. Failure is part of their solution to remain in power. Fear is their weapon, and stupidity is the fuel.

    1. God! Your quote should be immortalized. Nobody could have put it better: “Fear is their weapon, and stupidity is the fuel”. Amazing!

    2. @Sincerely Yours You can’t fix a willing ignorant. Let him be, if he doesn’t learn, not even the hard way, natural selection will do the rest.

    1. I’m so tired of stupid, self serving people being elected. Obama tried to deal with the new more powerful storms due to climate change by making sure any new infrastructure would be built to higher standards. He did this with new regulations which was one of the first things that Trump removed when he got into power. Well Repubs, how is that strategy working for us now?

    2. The GOP has spent 40 years gutting the USA – and this is the result. And it’s getting worse – AND the R’s are desperately fighting it NOT getting worse…

  7. Why vote for Cruz when you had a winner like Beto . God you guys need to vote better because the GOP cares about nothing that is relevant.

    1. It’s like they rather be partisan and hate then elect people who care about everyone . I guess these people love living like this now how is being a Republican will help anyone out of this , because it seems like everyone is suffering and it doesn’t care who you voted for but if you had someone who is for everyone and not themselves he / she would do the right things for the people.

    2. I did vote for Beto and so did my whole family. None of us can stand Ted Cruz. Beto almost won. I was very sad he didn’t.

  8. Governor Abbott has a generator in his homes. Do you? Why does a multimillionaire speak for you?

Texas can’t be its own country for two reasons:
    1) They already tried and failed. 2) They can’t even keep the lights on.

    1. @Candy Wilson Taxes happen capitalist societies too. Surprise, huh? Without taxes you wouldn’t have schools or hospitals. Pay your fair share so we can move forward.

If we had your way, no one in rural Texan communities would have reasonable access to healthcare or education- oh wait, it’s Texas. They keep you stupid so you’ll vote against your own interests.

Fun fact: More wealthy Americans evade taxes than undocumented immigrants.

    2. @Sylvia T The GOP in Texas deregulated the safety of their energy sources for profit, and because so little protection was given for weather conditions, now they’re paying for it. They’ll just say “windmill no work,” but natural gas, coal, wind, and nuclear facilities ALL failed in the same night. People died because of them.

    3. @JMC Ranch That’s blatantly false. ERCOT which is based in Taylor (and to an extent Austin) Texas runs 80% of the Texas electric grid. They failed to enforce winterizarion policies to save money particularly on their natural gas infrastructure.

    4. Also they can’t produce the creative, educated talent that Silicon Valley has done in the tech industry. That’s why they try hard to lure them out of California.

  9. I’ll never forget that Lt Gov. Dan Patrick said he would sacrifice the lives of senior citizens for the almighty dollar. You first sir.

    1. Guys . .Samuel DeChamplain is a current generated “FAKE” account by some one from a Republican Think Tank, possibly FSB funded. Don’t Bite, he/She is a Troll.

    2. @Kennedy Suggs Beto wants to take guns? Such a stupidly shallow conclusion to make. Sorry we’re trying to prevent your future kid from getting shot in the face while sitting in class

  10. Good luck, Texans. I couldn’t live in a state where the governor doesn’t give a flying f*** about ALL of their constituents (not just the rich ones). I hope you get power and heat soon.

    1. My sister works as a hospice nurse in Texas and told me one of their nursing homes had to transfer all of their patients to another nursing home because power was out and there wasn’t any running water. Don’t know how they’re going to keep the patients completely safe especially with Covid. Pray for all of those who are affected right now and hope the power returns

    2. @Sue Zbell not bet they crank up the heat asap not the windmills and solar panels take your blue luv and leave

    3. @Dimitri Poupoulas Not in TX — and I’m well pleased with that reality. The guy in charge of the TX grid reports windmills is 13 percent of the problem and MOST of the problem is with natural gas issues — equipment issues … but guessing those issues were neglected in favor of profit.

  11. Are we ready to admit decades of the “good ol’ boy” system, nepotism, cronyism and voter suppression simply do not work in Texas anymore. #gopfail
