Bernie Sanders' Opposition To Iraq War Is Complicated: Report | Morning Joe | MSNBC

  1. Lol “he was against the war but he wasn’t unreasonable about the situation.”
    That’s the news here.
    Wow.

    1. Some Research:
      https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/01/bernie-sanders-war-debate/604945/

“Sanders has been competing with Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts for support among progressives, but here his longer record in Congress has helped: Warren was not even a public figure when the Iraq War started in 2003. The other top-tier Democrat—former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg—served in Afghanistan, but was barely able to legally drink a beer when the U.S. invaded Iraq.

Whether Sanders made the most of his chance tonight is another question.

The other candidates largely held their own during the foreign-policy exchange, and CNN’s Wolf Blitzer did force Sanders to acknowledge that as sound as his judgment may have been on Iraq, he voiced regret for his vote in support of the war in Afghanistan, which is now in its 20th year.”

    1. Hey Cra Cra, so you trust the DUMPF? Liar, Con Man in Chief. Wake up Trumpettes, you have all been DUPED and are DOOMED!

    1. —- > Hardball, Chris Matthews is like a canary in a coal mine. He’s freaked out twice that Bernie is going to cancel his tax cuts. Morning Joe is a Republican also. He decries the abuses of Trump but is okay with unbalanced tax cuts and other GOP economic policies.

    1. Communist bernie will never be you free meal ticket get a job he could care less about you .thingsimminy hes following hilters footsteps

    2. 🎯🎯IMPEACHED PRESIDENT TRAITOR TRUMP WILL FOREVER BE GUILTY IN THE COURT OF WORLD OPINION!! AND FOR ALL OF HISTORY!!🎯🎯

  2. “Sanders says he opposed allowing the president to unilaterally invade Iraq, but our research found a more complicated story. Here’s our correspondent to share more.”
“Yes, our research found that Sanders opposed allowing the president to unilaterally invade Iraq, and proposed an amendment that would prevent him from doing that.”
“Clearly this is a complicated issue, but will it matter to Bernie Bros?”

    1. @Zeno of Citium I think the decision for war in Afghanistan was more complicated though (9/11). Us going to Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 that was the big lie that everyone should have voted against.

    2. @Daleelah Sada
GOP loves him and Tulsi Haggard.
Sanders is a self-serious, self-styled socialist who owns three homes. He ran for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2016, losing to the most unpopular nominee in the party’s history and fathering a “revolution” which was powerless to stop the opposing Republican Party from reaching its strongest level of representation at state and federal levels since 1928. It also likely contributed to a Republican underdog winning back the White House.

In 2016, Sanders got to rattle off shopworn tropes about soaking the rich and making college free to throngs of young Americans which were tailor-made to become viral, shareable content.

Before Democrats listen to one more self-righteous piece of advice from Sanders, they should take 2016 at face value: After racking up millions of meaningless primary votes, Sanders and his followers played armchair quarterback all the way to Election Day and beyond. They sandbagged a Democrat who could have won had they shown up for her, and then lamented the state of things once she lost.

  3. That was by far the weakest attempt at damaging Bernie’s consistency on a major issue which is foreign policy and interventionism. I’ve seen some hit pieces for sure, but this one is absolutely egregious. The conclusion on this piece is laughable aswell since they end up conceiding their main argument all together.

    1. @HaloMasterRex
So you are okay they do him like a Kennedy just as long as you get free stuff and master your video games..

    2. @HaloMasterRex
Nope, GOP loves him and Tulsi Haggard.

  4. Corporate media are clowns….they are so ridiculous with their anti-Bernie rhetorics. Did he vote against the war? YEEEES! End of story!…no but-if-though🤫

    1. @Tessmage Tessera yes good news after all communism is America’s future right, you people are not intelligent at all, without capitalism America will fail, just like Russia did, why do you think America can survive without buisness, and with government serving and controlling all production, education, and medical needs, tell me would you go to your county hospital with cancer or would you go to a private hospital, one tell me why you would deny others private hospital care ,or do you not know that the government will not pay high wages for medical professionals and the latest equipment and research private hospitals will be outlawed and of course Bernie’s 90% wealth tax won’t sent corporations running to capitalist nations to operate no they’ll pay 90%tax right, and open borders of course that wont bring a billion people to america for free education and health care and housing will it,and cartels wont rule our cities just because they csnt be refused entry and cant be deported,ys in sure hes a sweet old man right, but ya good luck,Putin will love it though,he will gain the earth overnight and the us military will be the victims of Putin’s forces because Putin and the world know Bernie Sanders cant fight hes not tough nor shrude enough hes more of a child or an old man ,and im afraid the modern world is no country for old men,

  5. Amazed that MSNBC is continuing their petty attempts to minimize, destruct, and criticize Bernie Sanders directly and indirectly. Awful stuff…

    1. I just can’t believe they are doing this so openly. They call his supporters nazis. I mean how far do you go?

    2. @Teddy Swagger Be careful there, Teddy. Because by your definition, we won’t be able to vote for Bernie on Nov as it will ‘condone’ socialism.

  6. I’m not the biggest Bernie supporter, but this is pathetic. Ultimately, he voted to not authorize the Bush administration to carry out a military strike in Iraq.

    1. @lissa leggs There are some substantial differences between Afghanistan and Irak. The biggest mistakes was not only the war it selves, but also how they didn’t manage to understand ore to protect the civil population. Afghanistan also had a United Nations Security counsel resolution adopted unanimously, as legislation for intervention in Afghanistan. That was not the case in Irak. Circumstances matter.

  7. No sane person would say “I’m against war of any kind under any circumstances.

Bernie never said he was a pacifist.

    STOP SMEARING BERNIE.

    1. JeepDan777 nobody is advocating socialism not Bernie or any other candidate, so stop with your false equivalence

    2. @Rick Donato
      Socialism – Nationalism
Nationalism – Socialism = “Protectionism” either way you arrange the words.

  8. I’m not a young voter, I was an adult at the time, in my mid 30’s when this all came about. This research and news reporting has an incorrect twist to the truth. MSNBC has now gone too far. I’m not a full Bernie fan, but this has now made me feel that MSNBC are part of the problem, not the solution. I can’t stand Trump, but now understand what he means by “fake news”.

    2. @G J
Sanders scant number of legislative accomplishments. Sanders has seldom authored or sponsored bills of consequence in his Congressional tenure. His sincere devotion to a socialist tide he believes will lift all boats has amounted to him lifting virtually none.
      I don’t have a preferred politician.
Your boy stole Jacob Javits idea and pimps it as his own.
This Medicaid for all isn’t new.
Wilbur Mills and Fannie Foxx is who wrecked it all decades ago
We wouldn’t even be discussing it if Wilbur had just went home instead of strip bar and got drunk as usual..
Can we talk about Kublai Khan Buddhist statues and voting yes to 18 year war..?

    1. @doug wong @Ryan Dub @Poperman @Teddy Swagger @Nadir Muzaffar , It’s good to get some background on who’s commenting here. Take a look at lissa leggs’ channel and videos. Obviously quite a scholar!

    2. SCREW MSNBC. Just dropped in to see whether MSNBC is still twisting itself into pretzels to tear down Sanders (who currently LEADS in the Primaries), but sure enough, you’re still at it. Buh-bye.

  9. Bernie mentioned many times that he was not a pacifist!

He’s been saying the whole time that war should be the last solution
