JAPAN DELIVERS ON COMMITMENT MADE TO GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF DOMINICA

Prime Minister Skerrit and new Japanese Ambassador sign Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement for US$7. 6 million Fisheries Centre at Portsmouth

Roosevelt Skerrit has expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for honouring a commitment it made several years ago to finance the construction of a modern Fisheries Centre in the Town of Portsmouth.

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony for the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Financial Centre, Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan and spoke of the strength of the relationship between the two countries.

DOMINICA HOSTS COUNTER-TRAFFICKING TRAINING SEMINAR FOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGAN

Roseau, Dominica – March 25, 2009……………… The International Organisation for Migration(IOM) in partnership with the  Government of Dominica  is hosting a two-day training seminar aimed at building capacity  within institutions in Dominica  to combat  human trafficking   for government  officials and civil society organisations starting today, Wednesday March 25  at the Police Training School at Morne Bruce.

INTEGRITY COMMISSION REJECTS COMPLAINT OF BREACHES OF CODE OF CONDUCT LODGED BY LENNOX LINTON AGAI

Roosevelt Skerrit. The complaint was filed on September 2, 2008, one day after The Integrity in Public Office Act, 2003 came into effect.

REFORM AT THE CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DIVISION ENTERS NEW PHASE

The reform programme is part of Government’s overall strategy to improve the competitiveness of the trade system in Dominica.

SKERRIT SPEAKS OF STRIDES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE IN EDUCATION AND ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE AT TOWN HALL M

prime_minister_skerrit_in_thibaud_dec_2008.jpgRoseau, Dominica – January 13, 2009………………On the invitation of organisers of the 2008 Thibaud Reunion, the Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit addressed a Town Hall Meeting in the village of Thibaud in late December where he outlined the tremendous strides that have been made by his Government over the last several years, especially with respect to education and road infrastructure in the Vieille Case constituency.

 

According, Hon. Skerrit, who is also Parliamentary Representative for  the area  significant strides have been made in education, where many young persons from that part of the country  are being  granted opportunities to empower themselves irrespective of political or religious affiliation or socio-economic circumstances. Reference was made to the fact that there are countries in the world far richer than Dominica where children will not see a primary school let alone a secondary school.

ACTING PRIME MINISTER HON. JULIUS TIMOTHY ANNOUNCES AN AMOUNT OF $131,000 FOR HOUSING FOR THE SALISB

A further amount of $25,000 promised to be used for a project

to be identified by Village Council

 

Roseau, Dominica – January 12, 2009…… In his address at the 15th Inaugural Meeting of the Coulibistrie/Morne Rachette Village Council last week, Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Julius Timothy announced that Government has allocated $131,000 to go towards housing assistance  to the people of  the Salisbury constituency, in keeping with a promise made by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.
