GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES ANOTHER REDUCTION IN FUEL PRICES

On Tuesday, January 13, 2009, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica will cut the price of gasoline by 8.8% or 80 cents to $8.29 a gallon due to a drop in global oil prices. The diesel price will also fall by 12.9% or $1.30 to $8.74 a gallon to take effect on the same day, while the price of kerosene will decrease by 15.7% or $1.39 to $7.44 a gallon.

A LOUDER VOICE FOR THE SERVICES SECTOR IN DOMINICA

Roseau, Dominica – January 12, 2009 ……..A Coalition of Services Industries (CSI) will be launched in Dominica on Friday, January 16th 2009, at 10:00 am at the Public Service Training Centre. The launch will be preceded by a half-day sensitization seminar which will be convened at the Garraway Hotel on Wednesday, January 14th 2009 from 09.00 am where all services associations and individuals will come together to be briefed on the importance of services to the Dominican economy as well as services as it relates to the various agreements such as the recently concluded Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the Revised CARICOM Treaty and the Proposed OECS Economic Union Treaty.

MORE EVIDENCE EMERGES OF THE STRENGTH OF THE PUBLIC FINANCES

Wage Bill of $12 million  for the month of  December  includes retroactive pay

of $3 million for  government employees

On Friday, December 19, 2008, Government paid salaries to government employees amounting to approximately $12 million. This amount includes retroactive pay (back pay) to public officers of $3 million representing a 1% increase for the financial year, 2007-2008 and a 2% increase for the financial year, 2008/2009.

The Dominica Infirmary in Roseau was one of several institutions to benefit from the annual presentation of food supplies on Wednesday, December 17th by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Matthew Walter and staff from the Division of Agriculture.

 

In his remarks at the presentation ceremony at the Dominica Infirmary, Hon. Walter said it was “always a pleasure to attend those types of functions where we exhibit love to people”.
