@5 D : All I can do is speak from experience. We have had several times where the electricity went off and our water in the house froze. Fortunately we have a wood stove, so we cranked it up as hot as we could get it. We have always, thank God, to get the water unfroze and stayed warm. Of course we spent the night in the room where the stove is.
@Gary Campbell Your experience of winter is not equivalent to theirs. I’m a New Englander since the 1960s and would never draw a parallel in building codes and utility infrastructure between here and Texas. I’ve never been without heat and water simultaneously for days on end and with pipes bursting. They are suffering horribly.
@5 D : I no doubt they are. I’ve been through bursting pipes and it’s not fun. Besides costing a small fortune to get it repaired. We decided we’re not going through this again. One of the reasons we bought the wood stove.
@Gary Campbell the difference is Texas is not winter proof when it comes to houses and infrastructures the northern states are well equipped to function during this kind of weather. To us Texans this is catastrophic to the northerners it is just a usual winter.

@Jeff M And they’ve already hiked the rates for the little power they did get by a ridiculous amount. Some people will have a bill for over $1,000/day during this past week due to de-regulation. Didn’t even think about the reconnections…some class-action lawsuits need to start happening based on federal human rights laws.
