Roseau, Dominica – December 28, 2009………Leader of the Antigua Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Lester Bird has attributed the emphatic victory of the Dominica Labour Party in the December 18th 2009 General Elections to Prime Minister Skerrit’s skilful management of the public finances, his sterling efforts at regional integration and his determination to lead Dominica successfully in the grip of a severe global economic and financial crisis.
In a letter to Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit dated December 21, 2009, Hon. Lester Bird wrote:
“ On behalf of the Executive and Members of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party(ALP) and on behalf of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition in Parliament, I convey to you sir, our heartiest congratulations on your successful re-election on Friday past.
“Your prudent and skilful management of the fiscal affairs of your country, your record of regional integration, and your determination to lead Dominica successfully through the global financial crisis have, no doubt, contributed to the Dominica Labour Party’s victory at the polls. These are difficult times for many of our CARICOM States, thereby reducing the chances of incumbent administrations winning re-election. Notwithstanding the circumstances, your philosophical and practical response to the challenges have endeared you, sir, to the Dominican people, and caused them to strengthen their faith in your abilities. Congratulations!
“I wish you continued success, Prime Minister. I also take this opportunity to wish you, Prime Minister, the new administration of the Dominica Labour Party and the people of Dominica a very blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. God Bless!”
Since the results of the December 18th 2009 General Elections were made public, Messages and letters of congratulations have poured into Dominica for Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit from all over the globe.
