So this is a year-old interview? In an era where the news cycle changes hourly? How can this be relevant? What about asking why the Vietnam war happened? “Happening” is not really the question with a year-old interview.

History is a chain of related events… you need historical prospective to understand the current day. And this is a series of interviews.
he volunteered for vietnam. his opposition to it was HUGE. (his work w/ mccain in next decades is notable … and fairly interesting – they disagreed on almost everything but were always united on that. “comity” sounds so quaint now)
Events more than a few hours old can be very relevant and worthy of review
or replay if they are :
– really good and you are seeking to repeat them,
– really bad and you’re seeking to prevent any re-occurrence,
– they are part of an on-going series of events which you want to either extend or stop, or
– pretty much any review where examining actions and results in a cold and unemotional light.

The Honorable John Kerry. The one that got away and we, the country, are the worse for it, too. We would have been a much better country had we had this man as our president. The Swift Boat scheme was literally demonic.
