For the 20th time, America will pause for, read the names of and remember the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11 attacks that stunned and forever changed the nation.

In New York City, at the Pentagon and outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, ceremonies to remember the attacks that occurred there 20 years ago are being held Saturday, and President Joe Biden plans to visit each site.
The 20th anniversary of the attacks comes amid the United States' chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, a war started in response to the attacks and one that has left many 9/11 families and survivors, veterans and Americans with mixed emotions.

I was in highschool when this happened. I used to live in Staten Island and we had a clear view of the towers…that morning everything was calm and normal until one of my friends looked out the window and saw smoke billowing from the towers. Then we saw the second plane hit the other tower.
I live in Michigan we were about to watch a movie and the channel was on watching a show that had a view of NY and the WTC, my friend started screaming “Is That a joke” omg “Is this a joke”.. The day America was changed forever… 😣

I also have a cousin in ny who was born in October 2000 as well, wasn’t even a year old when it happened. Crazy what happened but we must be strong and not let this hold us back.
I wasn’t born yet when this happened but I had relatives living in ny at the time it happened. Ironically my cousin who lived there was about to be 1 when it happened and my other cousin (their siblings) was born in September shortly after the 1 year anniversary the following year. Crazy 😓.
It’s really sad when even a heartwrenching event like the 9/11 assault on America was not enough to sustain a sense of unity amongst the citizens. Instead of working to maintain that sense of unity felt after 9/11, all people have done here in recent years is fostering reasons to be divided and stay filled with vitriol for others. That’s a terrible memorial to those lost on that day. They deserve better.

I was twenty years old when the attacks transpired. I was woken up by my parents, just in time to see the first tower collapse. It was like the end of the world. We were being attacked and killed, and no one knew what was going on or how far it would go. No matter what you believe about this day. The fact is that people that did not need die, people that had so much life ahead of them, lost their lives. I will never, ever, forget that day.
