Supreme Court is debating two affirmative action cases that could have deep implications for diversity on campuses and in the workplace.

The Supreme Court's conservative majority signaled skepticism Monday over the use of race-conscious admissions at American colleges in one of the most controversial cases before the court this year, questioning the boundaries of such policies and whether they are actually needed to ensure diversity.
At issue are policies at Harvard College and the University of North Carolina that permit admissions offices to weigh the race of applicants as one of many factors that help decide who will be accepted. Depending on the scope of the court's ruling, the outcome could have profound implications beyond higher education – spilling over into workplace diversity programs and other efforts to confront discrimination.
Several of the court's conservatives noted that the 19-year-old precedent that permits the use of race in admissions had warned that such policies shouldn't be needed forever. How, the court's conservative justices asked, will supporters of the policies determine whether the goals of affirmative action had ever been reached?

Troll hate
What is hate tripping but Troll hate, in these times people are actually looking for things in other people they can hate. It is the new normal and it gives me a headache. I like the good old days where people grew up to be human not trolls. One more thing… hate is ugly! I remember hiking the Appalachian Trail in early spring finding a baby owl I could talk to sitting on a tree stump. It was one of the best conversations I ever had… it’s sad to see people missing out on so much.
Mark, you do mean monologue? Hate kills, and the hater could also be a victim.
@JAC NAC you may be right love is running out of space.
In times of war and conflict It is the pacifist, not the antagonist you should fear, for he is the man who at the beginning would have done all he could and more to avoid war ; so when he is prepared to fight, you can be assured he will do all he can to put an end to you an end to war to win it.

in all the anals of human history, it isn’t their story that’s being written but ours that will one day be told. I WONDER what will that tale entail? WHAT will be the part you add and role you will play, will you have lauded the lies told or heralded the truth boldly? History will not be kind to us who have sold what we should’ve valued rather than valued what we should never have sold, our souls for something less than what is priceless and the very strength and integrity of our character. Now is when we lay the foundation of that finished work. Will it be what we envisioned or reflect the consequence of our divisions and delusions we built it upon? If you want to see tomorrow, one needs only to see today, whatever hope or hopelessness you imagine. Seize it or be Seiged by what you fear and hate. God has given all of us that choice, his gift to us to be what we will to be.

If you just hire the best person for the job, diversity is certain. Minorities need to succeed on their own merit, just like anyone else.
*Sounds good but before affirmative action red lining based on race allowed whites and others to keep black people away from the jobs and school districts that would put us in a position to succeed so we couldn’t afford to live amongst them, and even then when they did it brought property values down*

I want the surgeon who’s operating on me to be the most knowledgeable. I could care less if he’s white, black, yellow, a martian…if he’s smart enough to save my life, that’s all I care about. Not a surgeon who was pushed through based on skin color instead of merit. That just sounds dangerous.
No one is being pushed through based on skin color instead of merit. Increasing racial diversity helps reduce racial bias in healthcare. The National Academy of Medicine reported that minority persons are less likely than white persons to be given appropriate cardiac care, to receive kidney dialysis or transplants, and to receive the best treatments for stroke, cancer, or AIDS.
@damalo You’re a liar and a racist.
Even if we could wave a magic wand today and every child starts off the same and goes to a good school, it wouldn’t last. Some of those kids would choose to go to college to be doctors and some would choose to be mechanics. Nothing wrong with either profession. But then their children will grow up in different circumstances. We would have to reset the system every generation. Which would be impossible.

A students never complain about what race their teacher is…
@Yona2299 What are you going on about? What does what I wrote have anything to do with that? It’s a response to what you wrote.
@Paul Spvk brother you were one ho brought up tutors. As if that somehow matters at all about what I said
@Yona2299 ? Yes, in the context of what I said. Can you read the comment and understand what I’m saying?
@Paul Spvk I do not comprehend what being able to hire tutors has anything to do with being an A student. Do poor kids get As?
@Paul Spvk I guess my minority kids had better give up now… because I can’t afford a tutor and their aren’t any native teachers in their district.
In No Longer Separate, Not Yet Equal: Race and Class in Elite College Admission and Campus Life, published in 2009, Princeton professor Thomas Espenshade and coauthor Alexandra Radford demonstrate that, controlling for other variables, Asian students applying to highly selective private colleges face odds against their admission three times as high as whites, six times as high as Hispanics, and sixteen times as high as blacks. To put it another way: Asians need SAT scores 140 points higher than whites, 270 points higher than Hispanics, and an incredible 450 points higher than blacks (out of 1,600 points) to get into these schools. An Asian applicant with an SAT score of 1,500, that is, has the same chance of being accepted as a white student with a 1,360, a Latino with a 1,230, or an African-American with a 1,050. Among candidates in the highest (1,400–1,600) SAT range, 77 percent of blacks, 48 percent of Hispanics, 40 percent of whites, and only 30 percent of Asians are admitted.
