  1. OMG! NEGLECT! Those in charge has no RIGHT to treat its citizens like this.

Same thing is happening in TT. They don’t maintain infrasture in the Caribbean.

Gov’t come; Gov’t go! Same shyte and sometimes more.

  2. It is sad when you come home to visit and to see how politicians aren’t doing enough for the country. This is a damn bloody shame. I had a flat tire twice while visiting family. Why can’t we have better roads like there are in Ocho Rios? Kmt.

  3. The government can do a whole lot better because they can make highways so they can fix the local roads just the same

  4. It’s a shame what’s going on in the parish . Give the fixing of the road to the chinese it is quite obvious they know what they are doing. All they do in prospect is stand and sit with not much doing. The condition is deplorable. I visited jamaica with friends and I was so ashamed of the conditions we face driving, garage pile up and the bushes. No one cares about what goes on in our parish.

    1. You can’t say no one care , if it was up to the residents them would of put money together and fix it long (even tho is not their responsibility) because them have law were residents are not allowed to do so….don’t feel ashamed the government is not putting nothing in place for residents to put their trash…stay blessed one day things ago change

  5. These people interviewed are so articulate.
As usual the so-called normal Jamaican is treated with disdain by the political and other elite groups.
The St Thomas road ‘work’ is an example of the utter contempt that our elected leaders have for us. Remember they did the same thing with hagley park, barbican, and constant spring roads. They’re doing the same thing is eastern Portland

    1. Hagley Pk, 3 mile ovethead bridge, Constant Spg Rd, Airport Rd, Yallahs Fording, Harbour View main rd, none of them NEVER took 3 years….pure stress on our side….NOT where CHEC is working

  6. Sadly, it’s not unique to St. Thomas, however, those roads are in a deplorable condition. The citizens deserve better infrastructure. Drivers should be able to carry passengers without having to spend the majority of their income on vehicle repairs. Moreover, its counter-productive seeing the teachers and pupils unable to get to work and school in a timely manner as a result of the poor state of these roads.

  7. So happy that DIONNE JACKSON-MILLER reported on this.
Trust me, they are working like BEES in a HIVE, as we speak!!
Damn disgrace that in order to get them to start working, we had to block roads…..he who feels it, KNOWS IT!!

Pity we, vehicle owners, cant get COMPETSATION for monies spent!!!!😪😪🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

  8. The road is in a BAD state. If they were doing the right thing then the road would be better. I think lack of communication is a serious problem.

  9. These people are wicked they should send their children to school that is close to their house like it is in the US and in most other countries in the world your children should not be going more than three miles away from where they live to school

  10. Jah know…the journalism here is very weird….Addressing Road Challenges in St. Thomas….then how is it being addressed? Did Mrs Jackson Miller talk to the MP? Did she do any investigative work that can give us details re who are the INDIVIDUALS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ROAD WORK? When is the work slated for completion?

My gosh man…the people need intellectual help….they know the road is bad and it is affecting them severely…you know that as well….but what don’t they know……? that’s the part that needs to be addressed…..The journalism a let down the people dem as well…..

  11. Greetings. Thank you TVJ for further exposing the river bed/roller coaster experience they call roads in St. Thomas. In reference to the title/ headline, given the state of the thoroughfare – it’s not a challenge, it has escalated to crisis levels now.

The people are 100% right to protest, express their utter disgust with the ongoing, no end in sight horrible road conditions across the entire parish of St. Thomas. Where are the elected officials and contractors who are/were paid millions of dollars of tax payers’ money? The contempt, disrespect and indifference they show for the people of St. Thomas is palpable…..they don’t care a rat’s tail!!The Prime Minister needs to intervene because it’s evident that the MP is missing in action/mum/sleeping. Why wasn’t he present to speak with the protesters and Mrs. Jackson-Miller of TVJ? What, he’s busy? Tending to more important business/personal interests? This perpetually slack practice of collecting pay yet no work or representation is being done has to stop!! What kind of country are we building? We need representation, responsive and accountable public servants who communicate and execute their duties in a clear timely and respectful manner in this instance starting with the MP for Western St. Thomas, James Robertson. If he or any senior member of parliament lived in that parish they would quickly ensure that they have decent roads to drive on. Yet the rest of us must live with the inconvenience, discomfort, health issues associated with the dust etc. and general aggravation. Why is the flippin road project taking 5+ years? Unaccaptable!

These incompetent, selfish, indolents (the lady is right….the few workers are often sitting or idle when you drive by work sites, no purpose or urgency to get the job done) destroy the entire road network across the parish when they could have done it in tranches over several years. These people just love making rocket science out of the most basic and mundane activity – fix the flippin road! You have equipment, machines, man- power/labour, expertise etc. so what is the real reason for the delay?

If Jamaica had a real, effective and healthy democracy/government this nonsense would NOT happen. Every country that is forward thinking and that understands the necessity and importance of having good infrastructure ensures that it’s available to its people. This kind of do as you feel like, nonchalant, talk to the hand, take it or leave it attitude in respect of how matters of national importance are dealth with is indicative of the colossal breakdown of the Government of Jamaica, how it treats its people and the general poor performance in handling the country’s affairs. Elected officials MUST DO THEIR JOB WELL OR GOL!! We demand better roads in St. Thomas and we are not asking for personal favours….it’s why we pay property taxes, GCT etc.

Thanks again TVJ for covering this important, pressing and vexing subject of poor to no decent roads across the parish of St. Thomas.
