The “Justice Department” doesn’t need to stop an investigation in order to arrest and charge those who signed a confession while attempting to stage a coup against the United States.
Just imagine this scenario… a serial killer drags a freshly murdered victim into a police precinct, covered in blood, waving a signed confession in their hand, while their partner in crime emails the cops three video confessions of their involvement, including one TV news interview where they openly described how they murdered numerous people. The cops then retire to a room to consider the evidence and “investigate, while the serial killers continue their spree.
That’s basically what the DOJ is doing right now, and it’s infuriating.

@espy Youngkin’s son was only 17 and even though he knew he wasn’t old enough and the first polling place confirmed that, he still then tried again at a second polling place but was unsuccessful there, too. Despite his two blatant attempts to vote illegally, which he DID know was the case, did not result in any punishment. As you said, the racial and class status disparity is overwhelmingly obvious when a Black woman, who WAS told by the parole board that she had completed her parole and was now eligible to vote, gets SIX f—ing years in prison! The same thing happened in 2016 to Crystal Mason, who also did not knowingly commit voter fraud–and her vote didn’t even end up being counted–but was sentenced to five years!
Meanwhile, none of the four Republican men who were found to have knowingly committed voter fraud in 2020 by requesting absentee ballots for dead loved ones and then forging the deceased person’s signature, received consequences of any severity. Three received probation and one got just a three-day jail sentence. Tell me again how there’s no such thing as systemic racism?

Please don’t despair. Sometimes I feel it too but I have to find comfort in all the ways they bungled just so much and how democracy won in the end. Do I think they will try again? Yes but I have to still believe there are many barriers that will hold if this is tried again. As far as civility…that’s a whole other issue.
