I think they loan thier car when not operating public route. You will always have some guys getting cars to run route to carry public passengers and they do crazy things.
I agree with Dr. Liakim’s assessment…it is engrained in the culture. Most Jamaican men do not understand that even words spoken to women can be received as sexual harassment; let alone a touch. When I moved from Jamaica to the US, I immediately noticed that American men would try to talk to you, but they don’t touch you (grab your arm, hold onto your bag etc). They know that’s a line you do not cross. Of course, there are sexual harassment cases here, but culturally men are aware of the risk if they cross the line.
Most Jamaican men? There are just about 1.3 million males in Jamaica, most of us practice sexual harassment as a culture? That’s utter bs… Show us the stats that back up this statement.

I was harassed by a male because he said hi and I told him that hey but I wasn’t able to speak and can you believe that man promised mi a box literally! I had to file a report.
Additionally, men in the work place exhibit this sort of behavior, it is not only out there in the public space, it is everywhere.
Some strict rule need to be implemented for men to stop this kind of behavior.

Sexual harassment does not just happen with taxi drivers, it happens on the streets, in the work place, everywhere etc
Perhaps taxi drivers should be required to go thru annual sensitivity training in order to renew license or get new license. Unfortunately if things don’t change women from abroad are going to think twice about vacationing in Jamaica

Big problem in Jamaica. Was just talking about this with a friend yesterday. Disrespectful men standing on street corners in town centres blurting out all forms of obscenities to women when they are passing by, if they disrespectfully call out to them and they walk on and mind their own business. The obscenities are unbelievable, dem dutty bad wod. There should be laws and stiff penalties against this type of behaviour.
