The US is in one sense rather isolated and still a “new nation” composed by immigrants trying to get a better life. The culture has grown out of a lot of ancestors’ cultures. This is quite fascinating as this is probably something implemented only in dictatorships. What do you think? In the article it was pointed out that this obligation to stand in front of the flag monotonously repeating this pledge text is not far from any authoritarian rule where the population is indoctrinated by the leaders. Wars, occupations, ideologies have shattered our countries and changed borders, while the history of your nation is so completely different. Maybe not very influenced from the outside, and that can be the trap… A cultural trap where the outside world passes you, overtakes and develops without making any impression on the US, still convinced it’s the greatest. All countries face problems, but what we see when looking at the US from an otside perspective is a devided nation, a lot of extreme religious people, cults, conspiracy theories and social problems. The electoral system is not very democratic and very slow, the corporations rule, money talks, the press is far from free and you pay a lot of taxes without even being close to the comfortable life we benefit in the EU. We all have free health care and our health care here in Spain is among the top quality health cares in the world. We have paid vacations, most have 5 weeks, we have unions which have negociated good conditions for workers etc etc. I actually think that big part of the US population is exhausted and fearful. Afraid of being sick in the hands of insurance companies thinking only of profit (ours are not private and not profitable) afraid of gun violence, afraid of losing the job and not having enough savings, Maybe this is the time to make big changes in the US.
(I will probably be trashed for having written this, but I really do not envy you. I get tired just by watching) ….
I also think women must keep fighting for women’s rights like in many other countries with to much of the society still resting in a patriarchal society. These are just some thoughts and I really hope it will be better for all the people, not just for the rich.

I know of several illegal ways he might try, but the only legal way I’m aware of would require a majority vote of the House to reject one of the certified slates of electors. The House has a Democratic majority, and I can’t see any way for Trump to get even a single Democrat to join such a vote.

Trump held up $900 billion of aid for a week. At 0.5% annual interest, that comes to about $86 million. Trump should be required to personally stump up that money – without dipping into any fraudulently obtained funds he has access to – and the money passed on to those who lost out.

Why can’t you just admit that, given all the political games the Republicans played during his tenure, Obama not only pulled this nation out of the Great Recession ( a curse inflicted upon us by Bush’s embracing of trickle down economics), he & Biden built us an economy that, try as he might, it took Trump 4 years to break. And that wasn’t the only thing he did which has proven to be a great boon to many Americans! The ACA, while far from perfect, is a very popular program & has provided so many Americans who could not afford health care to obtain it. I was NOT an Obama supporter, but he earned my respect. But then I am a reasonable person who is open-minded enough that I can & will change my views if I’m presented with facts that make sense & can be confirmed to be true.
