Red Nemo . Apologies for the delay, I missed your comment. Are the protesters in Hong Kong and China burning down buildings? Are they looting stores owned by private citizens or corporations? That is what is happening in the US. The right to assemble and protest is almost sacred in the US. The right to speak out against the government IS sacred in the US. However, committing crimes against other citizens, such as destroying their property, or stealing their merchandise does not fall within the definition of “protest”. So when we Americans see the government of China arrest people who are shouting in the streets, we will point it out, and object. No one here objects to it happening in America either. (We May disagree with the protesters, but we don’t jail them). Can you see the difference? And I agree that just because the democrats are wrong, does not necessarily make the Republicans right. But the democrats are still wrong in the premise. Some issues ARE binary. Abortion for example. If it is wrong (and I think it is). There is only one side opposite it. About the difference between the USA and Honk Kong, from the outside it does not look that different, as it was not that different watching the yellow jackets in France, or other movement across the world.

I see people asking why the police will not listen or believe them without an outside proof (that they will not ask others), first starting to peacefully manifest.
Then the police charges and use tear gas, what do you think the manifestant will do? Say “Oh well we lost, let’s go home”?
Many will, but some will stay, and people that did not come out because the protests were not effective enough will join.
Now, with those few charges, you have transformed a crowd of peaceful manifestants, in a full on riot. And this is the fault of the authority, at this point the people that started the peaceful protest are gone, it is not the same people any more. I have a question, have you had any kind of training about crowd management, perimeter defense, collective panic movements, or stuff like that? It would make the discussion easier.
Also, you want to rethink what you said about jailing protesters, the non identified squad that were kidnapping people around the city in Portland are a lie I guess?
Talk about silencing the voice of opposition you guys have 1% of your adult population in prison at any time, not even China has a rate that high, no nation on earth actually.
Regarding abortion, ok about making it illegal, if not for medical reasons, in that case nobody except the mother and the doctor have anything to say. Imagine if someone forbade organ transplants because you have to harvest flesh from another body, making it not whole and thus unable to reach heaves (it is actually a thing with many religions, just to say, or do you think that christianity should have a special treatment?)

Red Nemo . It’s difficult to address all of your issues. First, when you say “it looks the same from the outside”, I cannot argue, with your position. But you are admitting that you are oblivious to the actual differences. As my previous post stated, protesting the government is protected in the first amendment to our constitution. This is not the case in any other country that I am aware of. Our police and politicians protect this right. Our political establishment does not unilaterally charge protesters, as you have seen in other countries. Or police, in general value that same right, as it belongs to them too. So “the ones who started the violence” were the protesters, not the police. This is the case every single time over the last decades. Don’t get me wrong, we have some bad cops that get out of line. But we don’t supervisors or political figures telling their forces to go abuse protesters.

Each and every person that gets arrested, appears before a judge, in public, and goes through due process. They are entitled to an attorney, etc. we don’t have secret courts (except for espionage warrants).
Nope, I don’t have specific training in the aspects of crowd control you mentioned, sorry. But I am not a young person, and have been watching and reading for quite some time. The protests in our country right now are not occurring because people lack freedom. No one is out arresting protesters either. The right to protest in the USA does not include the right to destroy property that does not belong to you. Funny how the protesters are not burning down their own homes. And the owners of the ones that are burned did nothing to deserve such treatment.
Finally, regarding abortion, your comment about leaving the decision only to the doctor and mother. Who gets to speak for the desire and wants of the baby? It seems the all the people that think the baby should not have a say in this decision have already been born. Is it ok for a mother and doctor to execute a baby after it is born? If not, then why is it ok to do so one hour before the baby is born? Or one day? Or one month? Or nine months?
Red Nemo . Two additional points which I missed in my response. Regarding the 1% in prison. What is the proper number for you? Should we just release convicted persons simply to reach your target number? Each one of those people had a trial. They beach had the option of a trial by judge, or trial by jury. Their choice, not the governments choice. They could plead guilty and avoid a trial, so perhaps not all had a trial. But they did have the option. That is not he case in many countries. As for why so many? I’ve no idea. Maybe bad parenting. Probably a host of reasons including bad education too.
Regarding the harvesting of organs. In the US, the individual must donate their organs, or the parents may make this decision for their child. Organs can not be legally harvested without proper consent. I don’t believe that is how it works in China, or other places. The state does not control the individuals ability to consent to organ harvesting.
The sad truth is that trump does not care how many lives his lies have cost.

But one must remember that only certain people had all the information about the pandemic at that time, so even if you were right, you’re not, most people still didn’t know how bad it was. Add to the fact how many people still came back from China after the ban. In fact the first day after the ban, 80 full planes landed in the US from China, of course no Chinese nationals were on board, however there were sick US citizens on some of those planes. So that’s how China let the virus out of their country, everyone scrambled to get their citizens home, sick or not.
