James Baldwin was always ahead of his time. Through Eddie’s book, James’ time is NOW.
First off let me be clear. Most of my white brothers and sisters are not guilty of anything! But when the Constitution was written ….. People of color were not inclusive in its definition! That’s why the very laws, rules and legislations that have stemmed from the late 1800s into the 1900s and into the 21st century have been biased by their very Origins, and thus is why we are where we are today! we black people are not perfect and are guilty of many things, but most of the chaos that you witness today can be directly traced back to the lineage of hypersegregation, structured ghettos and intrinsic racism built right into our laws and policies!

Jamie Cox JC, I don’t think it’s a matter of being guilty but a matter of not understanding their privileges based on their skin color and the lack of true equality for Blacks. It’s a system we all were born into and no attempt to reprogram both the explicit and implicit bias that remain at the heart of our society has taken place. We are a segregated America and Blacks suffer because white America often relies on generationally passed down info, nightly news, movies, pictures, TV, etc.to form their opinions of our value and worth in comparison with themselves instead of real substantive interactions with us. If they don’t seek out information on their own, they’ll never understand.

A nation can’t heal or improve itself if it doesn’t acknowledge its failures and shortcomings. We always apply this rhetoric when it comes to bettering ourselves at the individual level, we should apply this to governments as well.

How about you guys do a story on the systemic changes that HAVEN’T been brought after all the protesting. Culture is important, but so is LAW. Black people are still being harrassed and cops are still untouchable. Get it together mainstream media!!

Read Baldwin when I was a teenager, too young to have much world experience. As an adult the message is screening.
