I had to use it when I worked in The Sudan. Canadian troops that were charged with manslaughter of a Somali kid used the mental deleterious effects of this very drug to mitigate their crime. I know exactly what they meant. It has an effect on your mental condition. The Canadian court marshal agreed and their sentences were reduced. So why take it? Untreated, malaria kills. Even with these drugs, it kills 405,000 a year. So if the treatment hypothetically killed 200,000 (if you treated every malaria patients to with it) then the drug makes sense, though they usually like a mite bit less lethality. Chloroquine shows promise, and combined with zinc in the right form, has shown efficacy against coronavirus RNA Polymerase. In vitro, i.e. in the lab. They are still working on in vivo, as in living subjects vs. test tubes (as in drug TRIALS). From these trials you get the numbers to balance lethal side effects to a COVID-19 reduced death rate. It may turn out to be a good drug for Granny Jones, skinny old lady who plays the organ at Church and who has asthma. Grandpa Jones, big beefy ex-trucker, who’s had one heart attack and a pacemaker, not so much.
Chloroquine is well tolerated, that DOES NOT mean it’s sugar pills.
