We all just need to find a common ground. We all need to start acting like a country. A union. Where Democrats don’t hate Republicans and vice versa. In a country with the most diverse people, we need to come together. I know this sounds cheesy, but it’s the truth. We need to put our differences behind us especially in times like these. There are so many other big things going on in the world all the time. We are the greatest country but we act like a dysfunctional family. We need to be the country that youth will want to continue when we are gone. Obviously we won’t always agree on things. So we need to respect those we might never see eye-to-eye with. I might be young. I might be naive. But we need to start acting like the great country we are. We were built off of different races, religions, and cultures. Rather than disagree because of our differences, we should celebrate and respect them. Politically, I’m in the middle. There are some things that I believe in on both sides. It also helps me to pick a candidate solely based off of my opinion and belief. Some people who say they are a certain party will just pick that candidate without really caring about what they say or do. There’s really no telling as to what is the best approach to this. I personally feel that if we open back up too fast, cases along with death might surge through the roof. But then there is Sweden that’s not taking any precaution. They say they are doing great. I hope anyone who lost their job will find a new one and I’m sure they will. My family consists of healthcare workers and educators. They still have their jobs so I can only imagine the fear and uncertainty many Americans are feeling right now! Stay safe everyone and I hope you guys are doing well.

In fall and winter of 1995 and 1996, Clinton was president and Republicans had control of the House for the first time in 40 years. Gingrich wanted deep budget cuts after Republicans took back the House in 1994 with their “Contract with America.”
Gingrich felt he had a mandate to enact strictures on big government. His “contract” promised to make government spend less and laid out galvanizing principles for his followers in Congress that also laid the foundation for the Tea Party two decades later — and the modern Republican Party.
President Clinton, a Southern Democrat, said he was committed to a balanced budget. But the two sides couldn’t agree on which long-term budget projections to use — the White House wanted to use data from its Office of Management and Budget, while Republicans wanted the Congressional Budget Office’s. The CBO had a less optimistic view of revenue that would be coming in, thus requiring deeper spending cuts.
Clinton accused the GOP of having “failed to pass the straightforward legislation necessary to keep the government running without imposing sharp hikes in Medicare premiums and deep cuts in education and the environment.”
THEN CAME THE GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN IN 1995…!

In 1998, Time’s Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy wrote: “If Clinton has always had a gift for turning weakness into opportunity, Gingrich has a gift for turning opportunity into rubble. Newt was the one who made unbalanced budgets a thing of the past, but it was Clinton who somehow got credit for it (emphasis added), rode to re-election (and) hauled his own party toward a more sensible center. … Voters might have retired Clinton in 1996 for moving too far to the left (emphasis added) had Gingrich not come along and yanked the whole enterprise too far to the right.”
Although the budget deal restored many of the Republican’s proposed cuts in domestic spending, Clinton adopted a more centrist position for the remainder of his presidency.
Clinton’s move to the right was exemplified in his State of the Union Address of January 27, 1996, in which he declared that ( “the era of big government is over.” )
