@better dayz Wrong, other countries do not nearly have the level of poor health for the reasons you outline as the U.S., look it up. Also, a higher percentage of African Americans are working-class and in the professions that are deemed “essential” but also lack the benefits or the pay that would allow for healthcare access. This has been a problem for close to 100 years so this is not a new problem and can only be explained by systemic institutionalized inequity.
@Nicoler BIK When I first started seeing the mortality rate I researched the health status of the countries hardest hit. I am very interested in the data from those countries pertaining to any health problems they had to see if any are the same such as diabetes, hypertension or obesity. I also learned that to be diagnosed as diabetic, African Americans have to pass a higher threshold than there white counterparts, which means delayed treatment. Thanks for the much needed reasonable reply. TC
@better dayz I had heard that our health in the U.S. was far worse than other countries but I hadn’t looked into it recently. Good to see that someone is actually doing some research out there. I didn’t know that my community has to pass a higher threshold than our white counterparts that delays our treatment–I’m going to look that up, many in my family are diabetic. If you’ve ever worked in a medical setting, thanks are often hard to come by. So happy to see them being appreciated.
People without health care don’t go to the doctor, so they wait until they are at deaths door before going. So sad that America is so behind the curve with healthcare. All other civilized countries have healthcare for all. Very sad.
That wouldn’t happen if we had better access to testing. The HMOs won’t test unless someone has a fever and a cough. A sore throat isn’t enough to qualify for a test. This is unacceptable and tragic because by the time someone has a fever and a cough, it could be too late.
